Some twit just drove into our 8 day old subaru!

Does anyone know how badly damaged it needs to be to get written off.

She basically drove into the side damaging every panel and the rear wheels are now wonky!

Need it written off otherwise we lose loads of money having a crash repaired car!

So really need any advice there is.

Cheers

Vicki

I'd say its unlikely to be written off if its nearly new. Doesnt the cost of repair have to be more than 2/3 of the value to be a write off or something? So say its worth 20k then the damage would need to cost more than 12k or so to fix - sounds unlikely, but post up some pics anyway!

Brun 30 October 2004 12:38 PM

Like Pete said ^

yoza 30 October 2004 01:10 PM

Does it have any roof damage ?

If no, yes it does.

V1CK1 30 October 2004 01:19 PM

Dont know how to put up pics! Can email them if someone wants to put them on for me

yoza 30 October 2004 01:31 PM

Sorry I cant, Im a bit stooopid.

Some one will though.

Dont worry about your car, it will all be OK in the end, thats what insurance is for, and Im sure with that roof damage it will be written off.

Really needs to be written off, basically as far as im aware any roof damage is a guaranteed write off with regards to kinks etc,if it gets repaired wont it show up on the cars history as regard to hpi checks and the like???? feel really sorry for you,u`d have had to have pulled me off her i`d have gone mental!!!!!!

julian N/W wrx my93 30 October 2004 02:58 PM

some one will buy it to repair!

i knew a guy who put a roof on a orion, and if you didn't know it had been done, you would've have guessed!

plus a make a good project for someone, take roof off, put proper roll cage in etc, like the pro's do! :thumb:

TonyBurns 30 October 2004 03:05 PM

Cost of repair has to be over 60% of the cars value for it to be beyond economical repair.
Id argue the point with your insurance co though, that due to the vehicles age, you would like another new one that wont depreciate like a stone due to the massive damage your car has incured.

Actually had a mate do a roof swap on the old lancer turbo(turbo 2000)was a 1982 or 3 i think, had a vinyl roof and water had got behind and rotted it.He just went to a scrapyard cut roof off one took it home and did it on his yard ha ha wouldnt have believed it if i hadnt seen it myself, braced it well before he removed the old roof though, wouldnt even contemplate it meself, though he was a welder by trade.

Roof damage can be a sign that the main frame is distorted. If this is the case it will be written off as Subaru do not supply the main bodyshell. My son found this out when a little old lady (80) hit him virtually head on in her Metro! If you suspect any body twist insist it is written-off - don't compromise.

Unfortunately there is NO ROOF DAMAGE :-(

She literally turned into us as she was trying to go up a drive the dizzy cow. Basically every panel on the drivers side is fecked.

The pillar between the two doors is damaged, dented in. Will this mean they have to write off?

Really cant deal with the thought of having a crash repaired car that has lost a couple of grand through no fault of ours!

So peeved, still cant believe it till we look outside and see her on our drive. They are taking her away tomorrow to County of Chelmsford? Been told that they are the place Subaru have their repairs done. Does anyone know if this is correct as if they do repair the car we want to make sure it is perfectly done.

beamer 31 October 2004 11:50 AM

Has the third party admitted liability?

In a non fault accident you have the right to choose a repairer of your choice.

V1CK1 31 October 2004 11:55 AM

Yep she admitted liability. Our insurers wanted us to use someone different but we declined and said we would only use Subaru approved. They then told us that this place, County 's of Chelmsford are where Subaru have their cars repaired. Just wanted to see if anyone knew of them and if this is true.

supertouring 31 October 2004 11:59 AM

Email me the picks webmaster@supertouring.co.uk and I will put them on this thread for you.

I am really gutted for you, alway a pain when it is not your fault!

Jiggerypokery 31 October 2004 12:00 PM

I think it's only fair to let the insurers know that your are not happy about losing money on a new vehicle, so get the car valued after the repair job and ask them for the difference. Even if they take into account the depreciation over the 8 days you should be better off.

beamer 31 October 2004 12:02 PM

Feel really sorry for you, I had mine damaged by a woman who didn't look before pulling out, but not quite as bad as yours though.
Good luck with the outcome.

You will probably find the repair will be a better finish than the origonal paintwork, you could try and get them to add a coat to the bonnet while they are at it cos the front of these cars chip real easy. The extra coat would help alot.
No one will ever know about the damage anyway, unless you tell them.
I've had paint done in the past and a good paint shop can make paint look like glass, rather than subaru orange peel.

I had a Ford that someone hit. After repairs the only original bodywork was the bootlid and three of the doors. (It was repaired well and actually drove far better after the repairs than before!!) (Yes, it was reshelled).

Never showed on HPI

Brun 31 October 2004 05:29 PM

Should show up as damaged repaired............

RON 31 October 2004 06:53 PM

Read your insurance, there's a clause in 'some' of them which says that if your car is less than 1 year old and it gets damaged, I think you get a new car!! Gotta be worth a shot!!

SiDHEaD 31 October 2004 07:06 PM

I bought a car that was HPI'd as never in an accident, but when my ABS sensor went tits up they stripped the front bumper off etc, rather obvious behind there that it had been in quite a bad smack!!!

I can host the pics seeing as they aren't up yet!

I never knew that, I thought it was only listed on the HPI check if it was a total loss. Then it would be listed as cat A,B or C.

Hope all goes well Vicki, somethimes it looks much worse than it is.

When I had my rear end shunt (got it back now), I rang the local Subaru Dealer and they said it should have no impact on resale value, providing its a good repair.

Is that right? I don't want to be left out of pocket.
