tuning advice please

i have an rb5 prodrive with full decat and wondered what the next step is to get more power out the car. ive spoken to awd who suggested a boost controller and wallace who suggested an uprated top mount intercooler and a remap

i dont want to go changing pistons, front mount intercoolers or larger turbo's etc but am looking for more power. any ideas?

Hi mate, ask this in one of the technical sections. You'll get quicker/better answers.

HI SOOB 22 October 2004 09:43 PM

kevinperth 22 October 2004 11:07 PM

yeah it is a nice car ..... but it cost me .haha
just doesnt seem to be as quick as my old one
have seen your car around a few times . you really serious about selling?

HI SOOB 22 October 2004 11:19 PM

Dont know,
I miss the "rawness" that my RA had and I fancy a change again, but then Its a good car and has taken me all year to get her the way I want her, and get all the problems sorted out.

I will most likely wait till next spring/summer before I make a move as its getting too close to christmas again to start selling cars.

Trying to get rid of the wifes MX5 as she has ordered a 4x4 and it comes in 6 weeks time.....nobody wants to buy a soft top at this time of year:(

Jamie

kevinperth 22 October 2004 11:25 PM

no not easy to sell now .two months ago and you would have been laughing.

thats a nice car you have but i know where your coming fron with the ra.

that one ive bought just doesnt seem to be as quick as my old one so the hunt for power now starts . although i must admit it is a bit of a looker compared to my green classic .i swore id never buy another one but that one just caught my eye . had my heart set on an evo or an escort cosworth

HI SOOB 22 October 2004 11:29 PM

Snap....the past two times I have said I am going to have an Evo and I bought a Scooby both times!!

Are you in Perth or are you outside the town?
When did you have your green one??

I'm Auchterarder area

kevinperth 22 October 2004 11:33 PM

i stay at the western edge . i had my green classic 18 months ago (s300byt)
i know edwin well who has your old silver classic
had it well modded and rollered 292bhp(not bad for a uk)
sold it to a guy in comrie after all mods were taken off

do you ever do the trackdays . going to top marques on nov 28th with a few mates who have turbos and evos for a good laugh if you fancy it

kevinperth 22 October 2004 11:38 PM

so who do you let loose to mod your motor . i use to let falkland do mine but i called them today and they were talking s**t about waht i should do to the car and i aint no expert. awd i always thought were a bit rough with the stuff they did but when i talked to them they did make a bit of sense .wallace just seemed to want to remap my car to put out crazy boost !!! so whos right and whos wrong. or you best not messing with them after a certain point i.e decat and ecu.

that seemed to be as far as anyone really wanted to go when i had scooby t

HI SOOB 22 October 2004 11:39 PM

Small world.

Yes, I do the track days now and again. Had the Buggy on at the last SIDC day but shes too good for that carry on and shes not as much fun as the RA or the Silver one.

You not going up tomorrow??

HI SOOB 22 October 2004 11:45 PM

Falkland-no
Awd- Good guys and I find them helpfull and honest

Most woork I do myself, bolt on stuff, gearboxes with my first scooby, all the non electronic stuff needs to be done by the folk who have the tech know how and computers,

I'm running the Uni chip just now, fitted and mapped by Dastek at Dalgety Bay.

Value for money I would say.

If I was to have it done again, then I would get Andy Forrest to Supply and Fit the APEXI ecu and go for his turbo too.

depend what power you want and if your happy to turn it into a total track/ rocket/ rally car

kevinperth 22 October 2004 11:55 PM

nah working so cant make it . have heard a lot of bad reports about awd thoght. just want it to whip my mates p1 an acceleration. not into top end stuff and ill be lucky if i do 3 trackdays a year and certainly no crails or edzells

HI SOOB 23 October 2004 12:01 AM

P1 isnt Ryans is it??

kevinperth 23 October 2004 12:16 AM

nah, my mate from tayport. i hear ryans is in bits

Blairc 23 October 2004 10:59 AM

Kevin,

Your mate lives in Newport not Tayport! (even smaller world)

Tell tom, Chris says he`s a timmy.

Chris B (fellow RB5 owner)

kevinperth 23 October 2004 05:28 PM

ah ye small world. i was pissed last night haha. anyway you know you want to buy my number plate.

TonyBurns 23 October 2004 05:55 PM

You want to look at the following for modification (this order is preferable ;))

Knocklink (deffo on a modded car)
Brakes (anything better than the standard items, be it disc/pads or new setup)
ECUTEK remap, should give you around 270bhp.

Tony:D

Blairc 27 October 2004 01:21 PM

I`m afraid cash is a bit tight these days and any bits I buy for the car will need to make the car faster. Good luck with the mods.

Chris.

?????????

When did we mention this???

Kev, I invite you to come up sometime and see how we modify all our post 99 impreza's.

We run them on the rolling road using Deltadash as a data logging tool as well as using wideband lambda meter to monitor fuel and knock detection unit to monitor detonation. We establish a power reading and the status from the car.

We will then raise the boost level to a safe powerful level and then optimise the fueling to suit.

Hope this puts things straight....
