which turbo spool up quicker ?

a VF34 or TD 05/06-20g ?
and I am guessing th TD produce more BHP right or wrong ?

bighead 21 October 2004 09:57 PM

anyone ? :)
where are all those technical gurus .

TonyBurns 21 October 2004 10:03 PM

The TD05/06 is bigger, the VF34 is a roller bearing turbo....
The VF34 will be quickest on spool up and good for 350bhp due to its design.

Tony:D

jonny gav 21 October 2004 10:27 PM

........but the TDO5/O6 can make around 100bhp more than a vf34 ;)

chrome 21 October 2004 10:35 PM

05/06 - scaleability for the future ;)

bighead 22 October 2004 12:31 AM

ok guys thanks .....quick spool up and 350 is not bad :), don't think you'll need anymore for the road :)

stevebt 22 October 2004 12:33 AM

my td05/06 is making 1bar of boost at 3100rpm and thats with a safe map ;)

Sounds impressive. What capacity engine would that be?

For purely road use, the VF34 is about the best match of turbo I've found on a classic. Lacks the top end power of the TD05's and hybrids, but is very quick and smooth to respond.

well said Stickymicky :)...........some of us like to drive our cars and not boast about BHP ! :)

chrome 22 October 2004 06:49 PM

outright.. ?? what??

.. I think the 05/06 would be fine for 'driving' too..

"boast about BHP!"

no need to boast about anything.
..so drive it nearer the spool point:rolleyes: do you need to go sub 3.5K ALL the time? you should get just as much driveability to a point just raise your revs?
do you live on the worlds twistiest single track road?
or are you another one who likes to drive @ 30mph in inner cities all the time ?

you obviously know best so I shall fook off.

bighead 22 October 2004 06:54 PM

who are you calling a muppet ! :)

the reason that I want a quicker spooling turbo is I am used to instant power .......because I ride 1000cc supersport bikes as well as driving the scoob :)
does this answer your question Chrome ?

chrome 22 October 2004 07:05 PM

I ride 1000cc supersport bikes as well as driving the scoob
where does the bike attach on the scoob? :D:D

I suppose it depends on the roads you like/have to drive on. I know some of the leeds area 'monsters' are able to use their cars to their potential as the roads are LOOOOOOOONG and straight (and not that busy compared to darn sarf)
whereas if I lived in surrey I wouldnt want a very very quick car..
TD04 would do me fine :D

btw- curious as to why you are going from an MD304 to wondering about a VF?
was the MD to laggy for you?
MD305 is a nice compromise- but then I'm biased ;)

yes found the MD304 abit laggy :) after a ride on the R1 :)

will try a VF 34 and see if it suite me :)...... if not it will be for sale on here soon :)
I mean to be honest 350 bhp in around centre of Manchester is more than enough power if you know what I mean :)....where as if I am on the bike I can avoid the traffic :)
ps...the MD on my car was only making 340 bhp !...so really want quicker spool up and around same top end
the wife moans every time I drive fast in the car anyway ,she said 350 is toooo quick for her !( VW polo 16v ).
and she never get on the back of my bike :) ....so it as fast as you like :)

chrome 22 October 2004 07:26 PM

hehe
would be curious to hear your findings if you go for a VF34

bighead 22 October 2004 07:30 PM

will let you know m8 :)......will be fitted come Monday .

nope, after messing about with my turbos i raised my spool point, only by about 3/400 rpm but its affected the way i can take corners quite a bit IMO

stevebt 23 October 2004 12:54 AM

i got my spool up lower by fitting a different downpipe and fitting a turbo blanket :) my new remap will make a better difference

wrxtasy 23 October 2004 11:37 PM

what has more top end power, the vf34 or the vf28 ?
