New age wrx spoilers

Anyone else think the low level spoiler is a bit pants compared to the sti 4 spoilers of old???

Not wanting to start an argument here but when i look at the sti spoiler it looks an awful lot better than the regular wrx one.

chris's scooby 16 October 2004 09:46 PM

I never thought so when i had my WRX but now i have WR1 i'd agree with you!

I guess it's what you get used to.

16vmarc 16 October 2004 09:49 PM

Only really noticed when i was at dealership earlier and it just looks a little tame imo

I think the word to describe it is SH!TE not "a little tame"

16vmarc 16 October 2004 10:06 PM

well i didnt want to upset the wrx owners!!!!

chris's scooby 16 October 2004 10:25 PM

I saw a red Evo 8 today with a low rear wing. I think it was a 260. It just didn't look right!

scoobchrissy 17 October 2004 12:06 AM

The WRX looks w@nk with the low spoiler....

Ubik 17 October 2004 12:08 AM

 Absolutely right Chrissy. Thats why everyone laughs at me.

Buy a new one eventually.

WRX_Rich 17 October 2004 12:25 AM

can never make up my mind - there has been a few well sorted bug eyes with the low level spoiler that looked good

a std car with the std spoiler looks beter than a std car with the sti spoiler

Or Bugeye STI owners like me! or even worse Blobeye Spec C owners (if any have kept the low wing that is).

I like to think of it as more TVR 450 SEAC.

I have never been a big fan of the newage 'tea tray' wings they look like a 13 year old designed and built it out of inch ply board IMHO. EVO wings look better, they don't have the plastic that sits on the boot lid between the uprights.

I would like to see a WR1 on my drive though!

gso 17 October 2004 01:55 AM

i've got a wrx....with a wrx spoiler..... :D

It looks like..... an ironing board....

its gotta go :D

Buzzer 17 October 2004 08:50 AM

GSO

Scott Lowe, i *think* has a load of genuine STi spoilers that are ready sprayed :) I know they are significantly cheaper than your Scoob dealer but dont know how much.

You would have to e-mail him, he goes under the name of Megabusa on here :)

Ive kept the low level rear wing, the Spec C isnt meant to have a HUGH rear spoiler, its meant to be descrete, thats the entire point of the car, ok its not the biggest spoiler in town, and to that effect it keeps the kiddies from ripping it off your boot  but as most people think the Spec C is a wrx cos it looks like one and then they get a VERY big shock as it passes them, and they try to figure out what the hell your car is ;) it makes life interesting :D (oh did i forget to mention that those big spoilers vibrate at speed and apart from giving you naff all downforce just look like they want to fly off ;))

I had a STI8 rep spoiler fitted yesterday - £400 inc paint and fitting (he comes to you to fit it), the thing is a perfect rep apart from the led being red not white (he says it would infringe copyright if he had a white led).
driving along the M1 at a steady speed :-) the wing didn't vibrate at all unlike the origional ones

phelpsa 17 October 2004 04:39 PM

I agree with WRX Rich, the Sti spoilers look naff on a standard WRX. I like this one, http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/trolley...wingstyle2.jpg because it is not too high.

The WRX spoiler is fine for the over 35's.

If I'd bought an STi, I'd have changed the spoiler for the low level one, the STi spoiler looks riduculous and that bonnet scoop would have to go too!!!

And don't get me started on those awful gold wheels.

The STi's are great cars, but they stand out to much for me and shout "young boy racer" at everyone that see's them.

Just IMO of course.

phelpsa 17 October 2004 05:08 PM

DJ140, you have a point.

misty 17 October 2004 05:26 PM

The WRX spoiler is fine for the over 35's.
That's why I kept mine on:D:D

TonyBurns 17 October 2004 06:30 PM

Mine just looks like a WRX with a big bonnet scoop (which does considerably more than the small one i may well add!)
As to gold alloys, well they are BBS ones and better looking than those you get on a wrx so.... ;)

R1916v 17 October 2004 06:45 PM

One thing that put my step dad off an Sti was the looks, that wing and gold wheels scream I'M A CHAV imho :)

Can you ask for the standard WRX anthracite wheels when ordering an STi?

As fo rthe low level spoiler, yes it also looks a bit pants. I did see a very nicely modded blob eye with no spoiler at all, it looked immense!

jjones 17 October 2004 06:47 PM

yes dealers usually allow free downgrades to a spec.

They are different sizes, the STi's run 225/45/17 tyres, the wrx's run 215 size, plus you will loose out, now especially, as the new BBS alloys (well new to europe) are lighter than the wrx ones (you could try getting hold of some of the ones from the Solberg ltd editions before they added all the bits and turned them into the wr1)

Its not pants, and the car with no spoiler, well you get the 16 inch Spec C with no spoiler, its just a weight saver.
If you dont want the attention then get the low level spoiler that doesnt vibrate, for attention, the high level one that does ;)

Oh i should also say that the wrx alloys wont fit over the Brembo 4 pots....

Didn't think it would be possible, aw well looks like it's either a can o' spray paint or some new wheels :)

Or a WRX PPP....

Hes got a WRX SL on lease atm, when this goes back he might get another minus the SL but with PPP :)

BrynO 17 October 2004 07:17 PM

Seems to be a fair number of STi wheels in anthracite turning up on Ebay, (as fitted to the WR1 before they change them to PF7's).

ive got a my04 wrx with the spoiler raiseres from tsl on the standard spolier, it looks awasome, no where near as over the top as a sti, and not as dull as standard.

Henrik 18 October 2004 10:51 AM

Well, I'm only 24 and I like the low level spoiler :)

I was toying with the idea of changing it before, but I have now given up on that idea, because I like how the rear window flows into the boot, and IMHO the low level spoiler gives the car a nicer stance. The back of the car has enough 'agressiveness' for me with just a TSL Firestorm backbox.

Personally, I reckon a bodykitted WRX would look excellent with the standard wing, but I have been known to have weird views :)

The only thing I'd like to change visually on the car at the moment are the standard black side skirts and perhaps some eibachs or prodrive springs.

New_scooby_04 18 October 2004 12:37 PM

Oh come on people! :Whatever_ This is the road going variant of a rally car we're talking about here, not a jumped up XR2i with ideas beyond its abilities :) Scoobies and Evos aint supposed to be subtle. If you got it, flaunt it!

Best....a proud owner of a DBM MY99 (with gold wheels)

sKunk 18 October 2004 02:46 PM

You can pry my high level STI8 spolier from my cold dead hands :)
