oh pants!
Just in the middle of swapping the td04 for a td05 on my classic wagon.
Stripped everything back to the turbo - no probs. Got the nuts and bolts off the exhaust side but cannot get the 3 bolts of the pins at all! Even tried a nut splitter on one. What can i do? Do they need heating and cooling or should i soak them overnight? Andy |
try soaking in "wd40", etc...............never come across probs with the up-pipe one personally...........

Soaked the 3 pins on the down pipe with wd40 and the 3 bolts on the up pipe. none want to budge. All have rounded off now.
May take it to a garage who has got more time patience and skill! Not sure what they can do though really? Keep ya eyes open for this td05 for sale soon!! |
Angle grinder / dremel may help!
Try a "wall drive" socket or spanner, that uses flat of nut to deliver force instead of the ( now rounded ) corners. Downpipe has 2 nut/bolts and 3 studs/nuts, up-pipe is 3 nuts & bolts IIRC. Subaru do the studs, nuts and bolts if you need new ones. |
Buy new nuts and bolts before you do this!!!!!!
For the nuts, take a hacksaw and cut down the side of the thread through the nut (top to bottom) Try not to damage the thread on the stud For the bolts, you may have to just cut the heads off and sort the left overs out once its off the car :( If you don't feel capable take it to a garage, it might cost less in the long run :) |
Bummer mate.

To make matters worse i did my back in on sunday (i have a history of back problems) Local garage will be sorting it now. No harm done.
Except for the huge amounts of smoke coming off the turbo due to the wd40! Thanks for the input guys. Ill get there. |
