uk and dutch

i have just purchased a 52 plate wrx and its from beljium i think!!! can anyone out there tell me what is the difference between them because my insurance has charged me £300 more because its an import. is there any difference in spec as well?

I'm had a couple of Scoobies in the past which I bought in Holland and the insurance wasn't affected. Make sure you tell them that it isn't a Jap import and that it is full UK spec, EXACTLY the same as sold by a UK dealer. MOst companies when they realise this are fine. Try Direct Line - they definately don't load for EU imports.

Cheers
Andy

its a uk car (spec.) they should only charge you more if it is a japanese import. I have a dutch import and it costs me the same to insure as a normal uk car.

BrynO 07 July 2004 02:50 PM

Yep, my UK spec WRX came from Cyprus, no effect on insurance. Dont know what happends if you ever made a total loss claim given the value of an import is less than book value on a UK?! hope I never need to find out..

P.S. just be sure that you have a Cat 1 aftermarket alarm fitted though, was not standard on EU imports, no doubt the first owner would have had it fitted, if its the Sigma M30 its the same as the UK system Subaru fit so no problem.

Yeah, don't take any bull. I have an 01 dutch import which Tesco's have no issues with... Came with a Clifford 600.

JD - did Tesco ask you to put a tracker in it?

speedking 07 July 2004 06:48 PM

It is a parallel import. See here.

The only other significant difference could be the service intervals, but I believe that these were the same for 52 reg onwards. (Obviously doesn't affect insurance though.)

They sure did, also came with the car. Just had to re subscribe.

You should'nt have to pay any extra if it's a Euro import, I would say they heard the word 'import' and rated it as a JDM import. Ring them up and sort it out.
