whats best to do for the little fellow as he cant fly at the mo, put him on the shed but then changed mind in case he starves to death or cooks in the heat, so found a box to put him/her in so the nasty cats dont eat it

we had the same situation once and he was very young... we ended up using like an ear drop device to squeeze out some liquid or other for the bird to drink.. think it was milk or something (i was young at the time)

.. after a bit.. we started putting in small worms and stuff. then one day he started hopping about like mental then just flew off..

dont think there is anything you can do for the little fellow. Without food he will die anyway :( :( unless your prepared to go worm hunting or find him something that he will eat them he doesnt stand much chance :( a bit harsh but the way it goes :(

maybe give him some bread crumbs and some water???
I dunno, other option is to give local vet a call.they might be able to tell you how to feed it or give you advice what to do.
Once rescued a magpie that had been attacked by my old neighbours vet was in a complete mess they told me to take him down and they put him to sleep so he didnt suffer :( :(

i know magpies can be a nuisance, but thats a little extreme especially from a vet!! ;)

can't you bung him back in the nest. Looks quite easy to reach.

Alternatively feed him worms (pretty darn regularly!) Could buy some from a bait shop if you don't fancy getting your own out of the garden.
He looks like he's not too far away from flight?

tsk u men have an answer for everything ;)

No if he bungs him back into the nest he risks the chance of being rejected by the mother! smell of human hands etc etc ... I listened when i was in school :D

Maybe it was the old neighbours that attacked it and the vet was just in a complete mess?? :)

Interesting - I didn't do bird recovery at school.
He looks almost ready to go. You gotta help him out or find someone who will.

You men will never learn :D

Bit extreme, having to put the vet to sleep.

Tiggs 17 May 2004 05:39 PM

Dazza,

We had a similar situation a month ago. Our cat trapped a fledgling blackbird in our back garden. It had obviously fallen out of it's nest.

We got the cat away from it and put it into a straw lined box. Then we phoned an RSPCA emergency number, who sent someone round the next morning to take it away to a local place that'll raise it properly. I suggest you do the same and let them look after it! RSPCA number is 0870 55 55 999.

Do not attempt to feed it, only give it water. This is the advice of the RSPCA.

Good luck with it.

Simon.

salsa-king 17 May 2004 10:32 PM

my sister says its not a bird.. its an Eagels head superimposed on birds feet!! lol

Tiggs 17 May 2004 11:16 PM

lol- are you lot serious?

i have a moth in my office- i think he may starve if he doesnt get out soon but the net curtain is topping him- anyone want to launch a rescue party?

albob 17 May 2004 11:21 PM

looks like it might be a 'blackbird' - they are always falling out of the nest when they get tooooo big!
best thing to do is leave it where the mum can find it - she will be looking for him...
