Fitted Halfords xenon bulbs yesterday, but drove it for the first time at night today. The lights are now a lot brighter than the originals were (not difficult), but now are pointing in the wrong place!

My dipped headlights are focussed a few feet in front of the car, on their highest setting (centre console knob). Cannot drive over 40mph as I can't see far enough to be safe!
If I twist the knob (ouch) to the lowest setting; the tyres get lit up!

Is there a special sequence to follow with the centre console light adjuster knob and bulb fitment??? I think it was set on its highest (fully clockwise) when I stuck the bulbs in.

Could be the bulbs are rotated 180 degrees, but shouldn't be as I was careful to place them in so that the rear connector is the same way up as the orginal ones.

Car is MY95 uk saloon and hi beams are fine.

Anyway, before I go tinkering around again, would appreciate any advice to save a bit of time.

You can't fit them upside down but you will find that you have not seated them correctly and/or locked them in to the lamp mounting correctly. Have another go in good daylight and look where they locate.

Wiggle them about once locked in; if they move substantially, they are still not seated/locked in correctly.

Mike.

OOps, I wish I could get my cash machine to process my requests twice when I only press once!

Mike,

Many thanks.
Guess I just wanted to be gentle with her, but now I know the nature of the minx, will wiggle it about to make sure I get it in properly!

Bloody newbies: Already bu66ering up the lights and before you you know it they'll be wanting fiddle with the wheels & exhaust . . .

If you haven't put them right yet you have pushed the ball joint off the electric adjuster lift up on the internal plate or bulb holder and lock it back into place i done the same when i put my PIAA Plasma bulbs in! :eek

Just make sure you don't 'pilch' them and break the ends off!

er.. pilch.. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Sorry have been off-line for a bit as my laptop was "at the menders". University required a complete re-install of BIOS, Win98 etc. etc.

Bulb problem solved, per Mike's suggestion. Reckon Xenon bulbs are a significent improvement esp. when it's pi55ing down like this evening.

"Pilching" was thankfully not a problem.

Thanks for all the help guys!

'Lo,

now I have read these articles on how difficult this mod is, I have to have it!

Are these bulbs a direct replacement for the standard ones?

Do you know how much they cost (approx) ?

Cheers!

All you need to know about which bulbs to put in to replace the standard candles:
