Check if there's a firewall in the router that's blocking Messenger.

Have you got messenger set up on both computers? cos it don't like you trying to log in twice at the same time, it'll just log itself out on both computers.

Log on to your router and on the password tab it says UPnP services enable it and apply

Should do it :)

New to all this, don't know how to log on to router

Open the manual to the section about logging onto the router? ;)

open up your web browser, in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 (that should be it's standard address) a box will appear for password type it in (if it's default it will be admin, username box should be blank)

Mr. Cookie thanks, it was enabled. Messenger running fine on the other PC (windows 2000). I ran the network wizard on this PC (windows XP) and it is since I did that I can't get on to messenger. Both PC's going through the internet - I was trying to find both PC's so that the 2000 can print on the printer connected to the XP PC.

Hope this makes sense.

Can they both connect to the web?
Can you see printer?
Have you set i.p#s or allowing windows to obtain?

Jen_M 04 April 2004 11:25 AM

Both connected to the web
Cannot see printer from networked PC 2000
Don't understand third line

When you ran network connection wizzard did you choose residential gateway?

If you go to network connections are right mouse properties (xp and 2k machine) click the tcp/ip bit choose properties, is it set to obtai.

Norton Internet Security had it blocked. In security section for the firewall it was blocked. I changed the setting, but then when I rebooted the PC it was back to where it was again. So need to try and figure out how to save the changes.

Mr.Cookie 04 April 2004 10:41 PM

sorry not used nortons firewall for ages and don't know my way round it nowadays
