Anyone had Fiskens fit their Prodrive Springs

I recently had my car (03 STi) serviced and whilst there had the springs fitted, highly recommended. Car not handling very good but that is due to the fact that they haven't done the Geom setup etc. As they are taking the car back in a couple of weeks to set it up I need to know if they have all the gear to do this correctly i.e 4 wheel laser alignment etc.

Cheers

Marc

Rob D 02 April 2004 06:53 AM

Marc, why didn't they align the car there and then, seems strange to me?

Boyakasha 02 April 2004 07:38 AM

Rob they said that the springs need time to settle, bit of a apin in the ar$e to have to drive back down but as long as they have all the gear I am willing, and as J is going to Glasgow that weekend she will drop the car off on her way and pick it up on the Sunday.

Thing is that it is handling sh1t at the moment as they haven't done anything to it, pulled out a junction yesterday and hit the loud pedal and the backend was alll over the place, mind you it was a bit damp :D

Rob D 02 April 2004 07:52 AM

I would of thought a 10 min drive round the block would settle them!

Boyakasha 02 April 2004 08:03 AM

Hmm, not sure. Hopefully once it gets sorted it should handle great. The brakes are excellent now the goodridge hoses are on. Just waiting to get my wheels back from Keith then it will all be sorted, well for now that is ;)

As a matter of interest, if Fiskens don't have the laser set up, who is the nearest dealer in the north east that could carry it out.?????

Mark - see TRS forum - you could have Joanne use the Pro-Grip garage. £40 or so I believe. Could save her grief ?

Cal :)

Could do Cal but there is no way I am giving her my car to take to Glasgow, at least this way it will be locked up at Fiskens nice and safe :)

What a load of pants!!! Obviously the 'prodrive trained technician' must have been off that day. I had mines done inc. the geo setup in four hours at Nobles. No-one else on this board has had to let the springs settle.

I would have a serious problem with them as they have taken the cash and handed you a substandard uncompleted job, where you don't know how your car will handle in a given corner or emergency stop.

Did they charge for the set-up? For spring change and setup, it should be in the region on £400

"Honest officer, the car handled that way....due to Firkins' NOT KNOWING WHAT THEY WERE DOING!!"

Shoddy, shoddy....

Looks like another chancing dealer to avoid.

John,

the installation instructions for the Prodrive springs do state that the springs need to settle before setting the alignment. They suggest driving the car for a few miles before putting it back on the ramps etc.

When I got mine fitted at S&S, they asked if I wanted to wait for them to take the car out for a few miles to help settle the springs, or just drive it away as it was, and get it done later at a place of my choice (or take it back to them at a later date).

I opted to take the car there and then, and get the alignment done later :)

I left the car with them for a couple of days and when I picked it up I was a bit suprised when he told me to come back later to get the geom set-up especially after travelling down from ABZ. I will give them a call as I am not too happy with how the car is handling at the mo and if it has to go all the way back down there and it isn't set-up properly I won't be very happy.

PS Everything was paid for i.e. fitting and set-up

evojkp 02 April 2004 03:05 PM

Marc, I hear what JohnS is saying, but what has happened to you is out of order IMHO. Yes springs do need to settle, but, two weeks...nah' someone is getting their puddin pulled.

If your not happy with the handling, get them to collect the car (flatbed) and finish the job you paid for. It sounds like they have just replaced the springs and bolted the wheels back on. Even if the full geo set up was not done, a simple alingment should have been carried out to ensure it behaves itself til it's done.

One word...Shoddy.... Especially for a so called respected main dealer.

Boyakasha 05 April 2004 08:47 AM

OK just spoke to Fred and all is clear. A previous customer had springs fitted and didn't settle till a week or so later. So I guess rather than do all the setting and then the springs change they prefer to make sure they are settled.

I explained that the car was not handling great and Fred did offer to take the car in early, so that was good. All confidence restored now so roll on next week when I get the car back :)

I had Prodrive springs fitted to my last Scoob and yes, they do have the kit for a full laser alignment.
I was advised (by Fred), to take the car away for a few days driving to let the springs settle before they dialed in the geometry.

As far as labour costs go, the spring fitting was 45mins per corner (including Goodridge hoses) and the geometry was a further £90.

All in, labour was approx £200

Cheers Paul, sounds about right from a labour point of view, think I was about £230. The hoses make such a difference, one of the best mods so far apart from the TSL system :)

simon higgins 05 April 2004 09:28 PM

hey guys . wat sot of drop do u get with the prodrive springs and how well do they work with the standard dampers

Rob D 06 April 2004 07:39 AM

Simon, you get about a 25mm drop from the prodrive springs which work very well with the standard dampers.
Here's a picture with the springs fitted.

Rob got my wheels back, the guy did a good job but the reality was he only really had to sort 2 of the 3 wheels and charged me £100 which I thought was a bit steep. I said to keith next time I will just get him to powder coat them for me.

simon higgins 06 April 2004 06:32 PM

Rob thax that looks the dogs bolies. Was thinking of doing to my 02 wrx.
Thanx once again
simon higgins :D ]

Spooks 06 April 2004 08:22 PM

Well if the going rate is £200 labour for fitting then I could do it for less no probs :D....... takes about 2 hours for someone who has never done em before so they aint hard.
Not driven my car yet so cant make any comparison to Eibachs, Prodrive and standard.
Spooks

simon higgins 06 April 2004 09:26 PM
