Bit windy yesterday wasnt it ? :o

Very lucky escape for my scoob... it was actually parked in the drive when the tree went over and missed it by a few feet.

Fortunately for me, next door neighbours van took the brunt of it ;)

Close

Much damage to the van? Knock your phone out as well?

We lost the roof to an admitedly rotten shed & I found myself up there after an afternoon on the P trying to tidy it all up before it rained. Its now got felt/plastic sheeting over it all, held down with slicks and track tyres :D

(Shed's only got a month to live anyway ;) )

still blowin a gale in brighton  scoobs must be lucky ;) looks like his van didnt get the full brunt either

CEL 21 March 2004 04:45 PM

I think the vans going to be a write off. You cant see from the pics but the roof is pretty much caved in. A bloke in his white van came along and dragged the tree off it.

Neither the local authority or the fire brigade had done anything about it by 6pm last night... it had only been there laying there for 5 hours

I think it pulled around 5 phone lines down too... mine wasnt one of them though ;)

Fook! That would have been a bad one!

andypugh2000 21 March 2004 05:23 PM

Phew that was close, bet the old heart fluttered a bit when you looked out the window! shame about the van but its good riddance to another nuisance lalandi ;)

Anybody remember the 'hurricane' in the late 80s? a guy just down my road had just bought a brand new jaguar xj6 and the insurance didnt start till midnight or somesuch. shortly before midnight a sizeable tree fell on said xj6. result - in the morning me and the rest of the kids were climbing all over the tree whilst one mortified person sobbed quietly nearby.

The house down the road from me lost half its roof last night also. They've been busy all day with plasic sheets trying to cover everything up.

Was a bad one

Wacking great tree, yet look how small the roots are!!!!

No wonder it fell over!

scoobchrissy 22 March 2004 12:53 AM

WTF that was close!!!!!!!!!!

RichWalk 22 March 2004 09:34 AM

Bit too close for comfort!! I lost about 5 fence pannels on Sat- got blown right across the garden with one still in my arms! A tad breasy for my liking!

ajm 22 March 2004 09:56 AM

Is that a leylandii? Unusal for them to have such small root balls. Was it planted in a concrete surrounded bed?

Lucky escape though!

CEL 22 March 2004 01:39 PM

It's been waiting to happen for years, i remember everytime there was a strong wind looking out of the window and thinking 'that thing is going to go over one day'

Often we joked about taking a saw to it in the middle of the night, bet the next door neighbour wishes he did now :D

Im not sure if the root growth has been restricted in any way, guess when the wind is as strong as it was Saturday it will just snap the roots anyway.
