need some help here ,I am lucky enough to have a place for the track day at cadwell later this month and need some advice as to which pads to have fit ,car is MY98 with standard brakes ,standard wheels (but am trying to find a supply of slicks ).
As this is my first track day I am looking to ease my self into the swing of things so hope the likes of Stef,Pete C and all the regular runners take it easy with me...please!.

No question about it - Performance Friction pads.

You'll out brake everything else with standard calipers - and ignore the "you need to get heat into them before they work" brigade.

I think that IS the brand.
Yhey used to be part of the AP/Lockheed family (perhaps still are?).
I used these pads when I first tested the Scoobymania kit an Donno, and they did perform very well.
Not sure on standard set-up though, and they're not particularly cheap, but then the best never are.
Any decent performance pad (Pagid/Mintex/etc) will be better then standard.
I used EBC Green Stuff at Cadwell last time on my standard brakes and destroyed them!!

Ferrodo DS2000 are a great pad to "ease you in".

Performance friction 90 or 80 grade would be good too, i think 93 or 83 would be a bit too fierce for a first timer.

Yeah Performance Friction is a brand name also associated with the name Carbon Metallic.

What's the disc wear like with pads like these though.
I've heard any metallic pads can be quite harsh on the discs.

Hi stef,

Disk wear is very very low with 93 compound. They actually work by coating the disk surface with carbon and use this carbon coating to generate massive torque.

We have run the Esprit race car on 93 compound for 3 years now in some of the fastest races in UK club motorsport. We have seen no wear on any disk yet.

We run 83 compound on the rally car and that does eat the disks, we usually go through one set a year, but this is on one of the top national rally cars running in the top 5 on all events so really pushing it to the limit in the forests.

The 93 compound is what Indy Cars (CART) run on, when williams were playing with steel brakes they used 93 compound and were as good as the full carbon/carbon brakes, they ARE that good. They are also laser burned before shipment so all the chemicals that cause green fade have been pre-burned away so you can start using them at full load straight away.

Gary, I ran the Carbon Metallics on my first outing to Donno, all I can say is WOW!!!, Next time I'll be trying the Red Stuff from EBC.
