HAving trecently purchased my Scoob a strange thing happened last night when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear at the redline there was a distint booming noise from the back of the car!! normal?? Or has something broken???

Also how can you tell what exhaust system Im 99% sure the back box is from SS, but how about the rest of the system is there any way to just pop the bonnet and check to see if its standard!! as the thing makes a racket!!!

I have a full SS exhaust and this bang appears to be a trademark of an aggressive gear change.

I would check the manifold and the midsection as well.

This could be caused by a couple of things...

If your gearchange technique is a bit brutal, you sometimes get a bang as the drivetrain takes up a shock load as you re-engage the clutch. I think the bang comes from the rear diff twisting and hitting the rear subframe. This is 'normal', but obviously to be avoided for reasons of mechanical sympathy.

It may also be a mild backfire (also 'normal'). My car still has it's full compliment of two cats, but a muted backfire can still be heard through the tailpipe (more of a low pitched 'pop' than a 'bang' if that makes sense http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif).

Thx guys.........If i think back it was more of a pop! and I didnt feel it through the car so Im going to go for the 'backfire'!!! also as before is there anything obvious under the bonnet to check if the downpipe is standard or not!!??
