I want to run a .bat program in the background of Windows XP and 98.
How do i do this? |
a .bat file isnt a program, its a batch file which tells what things to load or do things
|
I think you mean a batch file ?

Start > Run > your_file.bat
Depending on how you've designed the batch file, you'll have a dos window which you can minimise. I'm sure there's ways to 'hide' this window if you don't wish to see it. This will obviously stop when it either has a problem or you turn off/reset your PC. You can have it automatically run everytime you start windows though. |
dont you make it a .cmd file then it runs in the background??

it's a batch file with a few simple commands in it - ping etc..
I realise I can run it automatically but I dont want to see the DOS window every time. |
You can ran it as a service in XP...
|
Run it minimized in the task bar.

just rename from .bat to .cmd then you dont get the dos window....

the .cmd idea doesnt make any difference.
I cant run it as a service in XP because I cant add a service manually. I need a universal method for 98 and XP. |
ah well,
download dameware from :http://www.dameware.com/ this allows you to add a service manually & is fully functional 30 day software shunty |
