Can anyone shed any light on the use of octane boosters. I am running a P1 but suffer from living the sticks where Super U/L is not always available.

SimonM 23 November 2000 10:00 PM

Nige,

Unlike the Japanese import STis, the P1 has been mapped by prodrive to work correctly with 'Normal' 95RON unleaded, so it is not a nescessity to user super unleaded / octane boosters.

You may however notice improvements in the performance of your car if you do... Octane booster can boost the octane of a fuel by 2 or 3 units depending on which you buy.

i.e. if you use 'Normal' 95RON unleaded + Millers Octane+ you will be running 97RON fuel, the same as 'Super' unleaded.

After speaking to the guys at Miller, they guarantee 2 RON increase but usually get 3 or 4. Very worthwhile, even made my UK96 run alot (!!) smoother, better pickup e.t.c.

has anyone tried that Nitrox stuff they sell in BP garages? It's £6.99 a bottle...

Now runing my P1 on 97ron + Millers

Haven't noticed any difference at all in performance although wastegate chatter has reduced.

Mattski,

A very good friend of mine is in the motor retail trade and is a dealer for both Millers and Nitrox.

He has advised me to stick with Millers, he says he wouldn't put anything from Nitrox in his own car. The Nitrox range does sell well but mainly to the maxpower set.

Also remember that Millers products are proven on track and rally.
Anyone tried Millers fully synthetic oils? They have an extensive range with different viscosities.

Cheers
Lee

I run my 96 UK on fully synthetic oil, with no problems. My dealer doesn't use anything else (I think), one of the best quality oils he's used.

I'm using Wynes Octane 10+ in my P1 (and SUL) and it just seems to make the engine run a little smoother...

Im running same as alex just not in a P1, and although no noticable difference in performance engine runs so much smoother i was quite shocked.

Ps that octane plus super

Milky, you've spoken to Millers and they claim 2-to-4 octane points improvement with their Octane-plus. Where's the difference? Is it +2 octane with Esso but +4 octane with Shell, or what?

Am I right in assuming that if I fill up with 97 RON and a bottle of Millers Octane-plus, I might have a tank full of 101 RON fuel? What's the score?

Advice appreciated.

Hoppy

Darren are you sure they guaranteed 2RON increase?? When I spoke to a rep, he wouldn't guarantee anything, and just said they usually found an average of 1.9RON increase when added to SUL?

Granted this was before they changed to a 'friendly for all cars' mix. For non-cat cars, millers say you can use two bottles per tank.

Two bottles used with SUL would/could give upto 105RON http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif and big rebuild bills? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Mike Tuckwood 01 December 2000 09:38 AM

Millers state a 1.9 RON increase, if correct mixture rate is followed (regardless of NUL or SUL).

It is a sliding scale, 2 bottles does not equate to 4 RON increase. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
