Anyone reckon the FTSE is going to stay up there today then?

TelBoy 09 December 2003 10:14 AM

Yeah, don't see why not. Pretty much range-bound in thin trading at the moment to be honest. My 4,400 prediction for year end is still on track, as is 10,000 for the Dow (smug moment).

Why d'you ask? :)

Goochie 09 December 2003 10:18 AM

Well, I've been making a nice little amoumt each day on IGIndex recently. Today looks like I may make a loss :( I "sold" at £2 per point when it was around the 4380 mark.

pugoetru 09 December 2003 10:19 AM

I thought you said 4500 Tel:D

TelBoy 09 December 2003 10:21 AM

4,400, 4,500 - what's the difference?! :D :p

Goochie 09 December 2003 10:21 AM

So is your market interest a professional one, Tel? Or simply for pleasure/amusement like mine?

TelBoy 09 December 2003 10:24 AM

Both, but mainly professional.

Goochie 09 December 2003 10:30 AM

Right, well then, where can I find charts for daily FTSE 100 movements?

I'm after a web site that will show me a chart for the FTSE's movement on any given day.

TelBoy 09 December 2003 10:35 AM

Not sure mate i'm afraid, although i assume all the regular share-dealing outfits would provide that at a cost? How are you tracking a spread bet without that information then?!

Goochie 09 December 2003 10:40 AM

IGIndex provides tick charts but what I'm after is some historical data that I can learn from. Kinda work out what "I could have made if" etc.....

TelBoy 09 December 2003 10:41 AM

LOL, oh you don't wanna know that, trust me!!!

Goochie 09 December 2003 10:50 AM

I do ! LOL!!

I would have thought it's a fairly common thing for people to wanna know ??

IN THE STICKS 09 December 2003 11:22 AM

try here , Hemscottnot sure if you can get the FTSE charts , but there is lots of info to be had,or here reuters

I think the market feels OK underneath ,it just needs to break 4400 and stay above . If it can break 4435 and 4450 then 4500 here we come .Just bear in mind that it's the silly season in the city with thin volumes so things can get pushed about quite easily .
And the Yanks will push the Dow over 10,000 (not sure if they will be able to keep it there )
Just my personal view , don't get too carried away

Dave

ProperCharlie 09 December 2003 11:26 AM

"4400 - 4500 whats the difference" - an aweful lot for me!

marky1 09 December 2003 12:32 PM

oops should be awful:)

Goochie 09 December 2003 12:37 PM

4500-4400 = 100

I'm a genius!

marky1 09 December 2003 01:18 PM

yep 100 x the number of lots you have on x the tick value - which I'm sure you know too as you seem so clever:)

imlach 09 December 2003 01:30 PM

So are you on 100ukp/pt? (sorry, no pound sign)

marky1 09 December 2003 01:39 PM

I'm long of futures and basically they are £10 a tick for each one you have, a tick being 4400 to 4401.

I've got a few:) as I work for a derivatives trading company.

imlach 09 December 2003 01:45 PM

£10/tick? Toy money :)
