Got pulled over this evening about my reg plates and have to get an MOT station to stamp one of the forms I have after I've put my "legal" plates back on..


now.. if I get the stamp from the MOT place and then put my not so legal plates back on, what happens if I get pulled again ??

BTW havent coppers owt better to do than worry about no. plates?

Sorry to hear that mate :( there out to spoil innocent motorists fun, makes me sick as some people don't even have insurance, a tax disc or even a registerd plate and get away scott free.

Worse that could happen if you get caught again I assume is 3 points and a fine.

and if its a private plate they can take it off you.

I got stopped twice in one week.

They said they cant give you points.

Second time i got a £30 fine as they said basically i hadnt listend the first time (it was like 2 days later and the new plates were on order).

They told me the worst they can do is a £1000 fine for incorrect letter sizing, spacing

The Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme is in place to avoid motorists being fined for minor defects.

The scheme gives you the opportunity to "recify" the defects without getting to the stage where you get done.

To answer your question....

If you comply with the scheme and return your slip, duly stamped by MOT garage, the report is filed and effectively forgotten about.

The only way you would get into bother for putting your "defective" plates back on, is if the same copper pulls you again and thinks...
"Wait a minute, I've already given you a defect slip and here you are, taking the pi$$. I'll just charge you this time, no more chances to 'recify'"

Hypothetically, this is the only way that things would come back on you.

If this does happen, you'll find that in the cop's report to the CPS/PF, he will detail how he gave you ample opportunity to recify the plates, but you kept pi$$ing in the face of the law! :D Hence making your fine higher than it would have been in the first instance.

however :) I was thinking about using "dual lock" (industrial like velcro stuff..very strong) if i decided to put my plates back on and also keep mt "legal" plates in the boot and if i got pulled it'd be "sorry orificer, just been to a show/shootout/whatever & forgot to change back to my legal plates, give me a second and I'll put them back on..."


would this pass ???

now this might sound like a rant, but here goes. It's all well and good have 'fancy' plates on but, how would you feel if somebody with these plates had an accident with you/someone you know and didn't stop, just drove off. Their fancyplates mean that you cannot get the reg. number, therefore they get away with it scott free. Now obviously I don't know what your plates look like, and not having ago, somebody pointed this problem out to me a while back and up unitl that point I'd not thought of it like that. I've been their had dodgy plates etc. But now I think, yeah fair point I'd hate it if I needed to read a plate and couldn't therefore it made me as bad as them. Now drive with just standard legal text plates on for my reasons mentioned above.

I'm sure I'll regret putting this up, but hey only my opinion !!

Haven't been stopped in the six months i've had an 'illegal' front plate. Had a copper even give my Scoob a good stare...He saw my plate and i thourght that was it, but he did nothing...too busy cathching robbers i guess :D or just liked the car.
However, if i do pass coppers going in the other direction i tend to leg it so there's no way they will catch up if they turn around to nab me :D
I like the idea of industrial velcro on the original plate kept in the boot.

...what about the front splitters that have a space for a stick on number plate. I think they may look quite good, leaving the lower vent clear of any number plate. Has anyone got any pictures?

I couldnt agree more with what you say F1, however I think you refer to the skinny italic unreadable lettering.

The plates i have , have got VERY bold letters on and can be read at a far greater distance than probably normal plates can.I chose this font as I thought maybe they would let it go if I ever got pulled is it is very readable from a distance.

I didn't get pulled as such but the old bill followed me(and my illegal Plate) to the golf course car park and he said that they didn't mind dodgy plates as it makes it easier for them to spot!!!

must admit Madgrip, some plates are easier to read. Should've put that in my post, sorry. Some of these italic plates you can't even read standing in front of it.

You should get a £30 fine and a photograph from a proper jobsworth.

He then crawls back under his stone, and posts it off to the DVLA.

The DVLA log this serious crime, and if you meet anymore jobs- worths they go through the same proceedure.

Then down at the DVLAs serious crime room, if you are found to have three photos of the same plate in a none DVLA friendly manor. They have the power to take it from you, and issue you with a standard plate.

In the meantime there have been 12 robberies, 8 assaults, 1 armed robbery, 23 burgularies, 1200 thefts from cars, 5 cars taken WOC, and one cat stuck up a tree.

PS. The cat was fine, or should I say FINED.

In my experience of "illegal" plates on Scoobs, I've always found that the following is usually the case....

"illegal" usually means slightly undersized as opposed to unreadable fonts like some of the Max Power brigade.

The font is usually pretty much legal but the plate has been shrunk for aesthetics or airflow.

Ah, but you've missed the point!

It a) tends to foul up cameras, and hence the revenue flow, and
b) probably screws the Automatic Number Plate Readers which, in due course, will give big brother the capability of determining exactly who went where, when, on a National 365/24 basis. It's called 'social control' - Be afraid..... very afraid!

It is, therefore, high on the Government's priority list and doubtless the reason for specific regulation in this area.

The Police Service in general is representative of society, as it is members of society who make up the police force, yes?

Due to this, you are unavoidably going to get some assholes, some arrogant guys, some lazy gits, some dishonest w4nkers, etc etc regardless....

On the other side of the coin, you get plenty of decent, honest, hardworking guys who take no greater pleasure than locking up thieving scumbags.

In fact, the police force is a lot like ScoobyNet in that ScoobyNet is representative of the Subaru owners community and the Police Force is representative of society.

The Police have some assholes from our "society".

Be afraid? Perhaps.... if you have something to be afraid about.

The ANPR (Automated Number Plate Recognition) system is fantastic....

For the simple reason that as soon as a "flagged" vehicle passes it, the driver is immediately detected.

This could be for a number of reasons, namely...
1) Disqualified driver
2) Persistent drunk driver
3) No licence
4) No insurance
5) No tax (possibly no insurance either then)
And getting away from the Road Traffic issues, it can be used to detect the following for example.....
6) Suspect of serious crime known to use a particular vehicle.

I'm pretty sure that if someone ran into your Scoob and the driver fell under the category 1 - 5, you'd be pretty grateful for the police apprehending them!

As for the plates issue. Why not just conform and let the fuzz get on with catching criminals instead of knowingly being illegal and inciting a pull?

I think it's a petty issue but it's for the camera recognition's sake and whilst they are breeding the law will be enforced.
