Hi George

In answer to your question.

As far as I'm aware, Mark at Lateral performance does not do a 20g conversion.

cheers

Andy

edited to remove price!

Thanks Andy,

Just for the record ,mine is a my99 with straight inlet

It seem that there is not much difference in spool up between the two

And what was it the price was ,if you donīt get a TD05 in exchange??

I plan on selling the one i have as it has only done 8k miles.

Cheers,
Skassa

the 372bhp car is mine, i used 1 mil per litre of NF octane booster on the rollers when i made that figure as thats what i use day to day as i have a very heavy right foot :D ;)

i get only background noise on the knock display at max sensitivity so even when i am giving it a good thrashing its safe :)

oh, and it holds 1.35 bar of boost on the road not 1.25!

Yes, it has a TD05/06-20g fitted, complete with the 20g compressor and compressor cover on it. Jonny fitted a big bore 90 degree silicone hose in the std location.
I was surprised how well it worked :) Saves a lot of hassle lifting the manifold, moving PS pumps etc.

Have spoken To Mark @ lateral performance and he is happy to supply the same turbo that i had from you Andy, bit closer to home;):D
There was one thing that i wasn't happy about with your turbo which Mark is going to Address for me...
Shouldnt be any probs as it will use the exact same parts as you, but with a Different actuator this time...

Rob:)

May have to get a full garrett on the 2.5 though :D

Is there a problem with boostcreep and compressor surge on the TD05/06-20G?????

As i have had the problem on my TD05.......

Can it just be run with a dawes a around 1,3bar without compressorsurge????

Andy.F 11 October 2003 11:07 AM

It's worth a try :) I still have reservations using a strong spring, if the exhaust backpressure builds up excessively pre turbine at higher rpm I want the wg to blow open rather than hold in the pressure and potentially overspeed the compressor.
High boost such as 1.8 bar is just not necessary on tubular headers, 1.4-1.5 bar will produce the same power as 1.8 will on std headers.

It will be interesting to see how the 2.5 responds to the 20g :) JB's should be the first mobile test bed shortly :D

Thanks Steve, I think 440bhp is probably its limit on a 2.0 (depending on rolling road) may squeeze another 12 out of it yet though ;) Re Skassa's question, how do you find the spool up ?

Skassa

I think it is very similar to a TD05 but then I may be accused of being biased ;)
I will email you a list of current users later who you may wish to contact via email to get their unbiased views on this turbo :)

cheers

Spool up is excellent....... its like a rocket from about 3200

But then thats compared to the VF series.......

You can get a fair bit of surge but then you can remove that through a good map ....... as far as the actuator goes - no final problems as I could tell

I think this Turbo is a good compromise between low lag and out and out power. I can certainly notice the difference compared to the VF22 Hybrid (which is a good Turbo in itself!)

That extra 12 bhp would be nice ;) plus I am not going to get chance to map with water injection until after xmas when this should give a few more horses

If I get a run at Power Engineering we'll see what power it gives on less than the sort of boost I was running with the VF22.... but I also have headers.......

Hi,

How much does it cost to have an old TD05(unknown condition) reconditioned and converted into 05/06 20g with front entry?
To fit MY 98 UK car. Must be a few people on here that have done this now.

Cheers

Cheers John/Andy

Looks like all I need now then is to find a suitable donor turbo, i'll be in contact when I do.

Thanks

George

Pavlo 08 November 2003 06:34 PM

You're not very aware then Andy, Mark will fit whatever wheel you want inside the TD06 compressor cover.

I see that Forced performance now do jsut the compressor covers, so I would be very interested to try the TD06 cover with a Garret 56 trim wheel, which they also sell, and for less than the 20g. Although that would require more machining work to be done.

Ģ590 seems quite a lot considering the price of the parts, wasn't it cheaper a while ago?

T-uk 08 November 2003 06:52 PM

andy,

perhaps it is time you did that big engine and then post how you did it.

at least he might get a few of them right too;)

Denmark 08 November 2003 07:38 PM

Just how big is the spool difference between the FE TD05-16G and the TD05/06-20G.

Iīm considering changing the TD05 i have got to the TD005/06-20G to make a little more power on a lower boost..

Right now my TD05-16G makes full boost (1,4bar)at 3700rpm with a manifold, but i pulls strong from around 2800rpm(From the butometer).

This makes 336hp/6650rpm 412nm/4050rpm

If You compere this to the power that the Td06-20G makes, how much boost would be needed to make the same hp??.

Cheers,
Skassa

Scoty 08 November 2003 07:38 PM

:D

Popcorn anyone?

George, contact AndyF for a TD05/06 m8.

How did the advert go again........

"Dont settle for second best" ? :D

Go to the source m8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scoty

You should have a package next week :)

tweenierob 08 November 2003 08:17 PM

Advert??

The banner police will be out soon :D:D

Rob

Pavlo 08 November 2003 08:37 PM

Bring out the advertising Gestapo...

Andy.F 08 November 2003 08:37 PM

Paul

Further to Marks comments about the 20g and laterly the unsubstantiated claims of how he had a 'more suitable' compressor, I'd be shocked ;) to hear that he has done a 180 on this ;):D

Skassa

A recent mapping on an early WRX (still fitted with the 90 degree inlet) produced 372 bhp at 1.25 bar. That boost is available from approx 3300 rpm on headers. Typically there will be approx 0.7bar at 2700rpm (10psi) ie std boost for an early car so it is pulling well from there.

Andy

Fangoria 08 November 2003 08:55 PM

The 20g is bl*ody fast............. having just had my mapping session with Bob the King of Mapping Rawle - an amazing turbo for the money!!!!

Scoty 08 November 2003 08:55 PM

LOL, no, thats not a banner advert, this is..............

(Have nothing to do with AndyF, just someone who is very happy with the 2 turbos he has supplied me with)

Skassa, Andy should be able to convert your TD05?

Rob YHM m8 :D

Skassa

Price tends to fluctuate with exchange rate and the availability, price and condition of donor turbos. Currently Ģ850 outright.

Paul - I'm not advertising, just answering questions. Similar to you with your injector kits :)
If any further info is required then I suggest email to keep the mods (and Pavlo ) happy :)

Denmark 08 November 2003 09:11 PM

Andy,

One more Q.

Is the 372hp that it produced is that without octanbooster??

As i donīt want to use booster on a daily basis

Skassa

Andy.F 08 November 2003 09:17 PM

On the 372 bhp car I refer to, it was run on the rolling road with NF octane booster, although the car was mapped on the road without octane booster. The owner uses the NF to increase the safety margin he has.

Andy

Pavlo 08 November 2003 10:20 PM

Andy,

The question of price was a genuine one, and if you think "bring out the advertising Gestapo" is a serious request to have the thread moderated, you've been eating too many red smarties.

For a 2.0 engine I think the 20g wheel can be improved on, and a Garrett one in a similar flow spec is less than hald the price (for just the wheel) but you would need to machine the cover I guess.

Paul

Andy.F 08 November 2003 11:11 PM

No problem Paul, it would help if you used smileys when jesting :)

The garrett wheels have had a few failures recently when fitted to the TD05 turbine, I suspect they were overspeed failures as the TD05 is a relatively high speed turbine.
I'll stick with the proven power from the 20g thanks :)
I have done some further development on this compressor with inlet recirc ports, initial findings are promising with a further 30 bhp over and above my best AP22 figure to date. Only drawback is that it requires a custom intake pipe with a 70mm bore.

Andy

Delboy2 08 November 2003 11:17 PM

Correct me if i'm wrong - The TD05 still had the 90deg bend, was it running a 20G compressor wheel (TD05/06-20G)?

Delboy2 08 November 2003 11:27 PM

Cheers for that ;) That was one of the reasons I asked as I can't be @rsed to relocate pipework and raise manifold at present :)

Denmark 08 November 2003 11:41 PM

Hmm,

The TD05/06-20G will be a straight swap over on a my99 will it not??

I have got a MRT inlethose.
