Any suggestions on firms to consider? I'm currently with Greenlight and my renewal's due shortly. The car's got quite a few mods, so some firms won't even consider it. Who's accomodating to the 300+ bhp cars?

Neil W 05 November 2003 12:26 PM

You could try Adrian Flux, they seem to be mod friendly!

Scooby96 05 November 2003 02:54 PM

Liverpool Victoria IMO

Fatman 05 November 2003 03:07 PM

I tried plugging the details into the LV website and they said they wouldn't quote for my car. Perhaps they'd be more accomodating over the phone...?

simb 2 05 November 2003 08:27 PM

Tesco's

Hmmmm....well the LV website says:

We cannot insure:

Cars which have not been manufactured for the UK market e.g. Japanese imports.

Cars which have performance enhancing modifications.

fuz 05 November 2003 09:22 PM

def NOT tesco

gothinducky 08 November 2003 05:27 PM

Phone L&V up - they do insure grey imports with and without mods, despite what it says on the web site. My modified STi 5 is insured with them.

Fatman 08 November 2003 05:30 PM

I will be phoning LV and also Adrian Flux. Thanks! Any more suggestions?

Fatman 10 November 2003 03:55 PM

Adrian Flux wanted about £1200 and LV wanted about £1400. Interesting though: LV didn't need details of the modifications. The only thing they're concerned about whether or not I had increased the cylinder capacity of the engine.

Fangoria 10 November 2003 10:36 PM

Dont think LV insure increased cylinder capacity - well thats what they told me

simb 2 11 November 2003 12:27 AM

Tesco DO insure car with mods.

A Plan Insurance
Hyperformance

Have not got numbers handy

When you have over 350bhp it gets a bit more tricky!!!

Only LV gave me a decent quote for any over 30, no claims accidents, whatever

eddie h 11 November 2003 07:46 PM

Just cancelled my insurance with NU, was paying £91 per month, now insured with L + V for £46 per month.

Asked themm about modifications, and was told that as long as the cc of the car isn't altered it's fine, just take piccies and keep the receipts.

cheers

LMFAO... Greenlight wanted ~£1700 !

Terzo228 12 November 2003 12:40 PM

yeh i'm with greenlight , last year i payed £955 this year £1300 !!!!! whats all that about ?
makes me sick

khons 12 November 2003 01:44 PM

Defo LV. Tesco's insist on a tracker device.

Regards,

Mike.

Fatman 12 November 2003 03:41 PM

Yup, I reckon it's going to be Liverpool Victoria. Adrian Flux were looking really good until they kinda blew their foot off. Get this... Right, last year my car got rear-ended. I was stationary at traffic lights. I heard a 'screech' and than BANG: some sh!tbox has gone into the back of the Scoob. Whilst I'm calling five-O he scarpers. The car's unregistered and we've no idea who he is. Result? A claim on my insurance. Since I have a claim (above), Adrian Flux doubled their quoted premium. Huh?

There's a message here. The insurance industry REALLY doesn't want our money. At what point does it make financial sense to actually drive w/o insurance? Sigh... Why, oh why?

So, LV it is...

Terzo228 12 November 2003 04:34 PM

rang elephant got it down to £875 !!!! :D :D where do i sign :D

Fatman 12 November 2003 04:46 PM

Terzo228: is your car modded?

salsa-king 12 November 2003 05:35 PM

Tesco.. do .. but they charge!

That White Scoob trousers selling.. has £8ks worth of mobs.. NO engine mobs mind!!!

they wanted £850 Xs... and the premium went from £2000 in std form to £3402 when i told them the mods!!!

vulnax999 13 November 2003 04:42 PM

Well, really impressed with Liverpool Victoria.!
Last time I tried them, 3 years ago, they wouldn't take on more import Impreza's ( unless already had other policies etc. with them ) so had to look elsewhere.

The price was a bit more than current policy ( +£100 ), but as now putting mods on the car, and adding the wife to the policy, expected that to rise if they would even insure a modded Scooby!

L&V - not interested in mileage, where parked, any mods - not even Scooby ECU / turbo / exhaust / headers or wheels etc. nor alarm/immobiliser/tracker... as long as engine size stays same.!
Also, automatically included protected bonus, legal cover, other car driving with permission of owner, hire car for theft or accident no matter whose fault, all of which were extras at previous company!

So, £918, £400 xs, but carte blanche to mod away, do as many mods as I wish and no need to declare them!

Peace of mind.... worth every penny!

vulnax999 13 November 2003 05:00 PM

Anyone had to claim on theirinsurance thru L&V?

Were they OK ? Fast repairs / payout?
Any quibbles?

sc00by57 14 November 2003 07:56 AM

anyone got there number so i can see how much P1 4DR policy will hurt? lv that is!
steve

SPEN555 14 November 2003 08:09 AM

That's a test for them. I bet they don't have a 4dr P1 on their list. ;)

sc00by57 14 November 2003 08:18 AM

he he so far they quoted £900 maybe its time to talk to them but if ppl are sayin it makes no difference as long as capacity stays the same then bring it on!

jason4656 14 November 2003 02:28 PM

just spoke to l and v at length, they said as long as you dont change the engine you can do what you want, just take pics and save receipts. But even though i am 32, i have 0 no claims, not due to accidents, cos i have lived o/s. Still gonna be 1400 pounds with 400 excess for my01 wrx, but seeing as its 1200 with tescos, then once i add the ppp then its probably gonna be well over that, getting a bit silly now, i could buy another car for the cost of my insurance!

jason4656 14 November 2003 02:50 PM

on another note, thought i would have fun with tescos, just called them an explained what a ppp is, so its another 290 quid ontop of the 1200 i pay already!! then get this, to change my wheels is 300 pounds per ****ing year! what is that about? pretty scandalous for sure
