Three guys go to stay in a hotel. The rooms are £30 each for 3 people sharing(cheap I know). So Each hands over their £10 (£30 in total) for the room. the manager of the hotel realises that there is a special rate for a room of 3 people which is £25 . So the manager gives £5 to the bell boy and asks him to share it between the three men.. thinking about this the bell boy knows he cant split £5 three ways , so pockets £2 and gives the men £1 each.

So if they all paid £9 (£10 minus the £1 they got back) which equals £27 and the bell boy has his £2.. a total of £29..

where did the missing £1 go ??

JR55 03 November 2003 02:47 PM

How long though, i know some one that took a week to get his head round this and he was really really pi$$ed off when someone told him!

Paulo P 03 November 2003 03:05 PM

 Not been able to %100 work this out yet

ianmiller999 03 November 2003 03:06 PM

Would you like me to explain?

Paulo P 03 November 2003 03:10 PM

Yep :o

Paulo P 03 November 2003 03:12 PM

Don't know how yet but they paid £28 between them :o £25 + 3 back :D

ianmiller999 03 November 2003 03:14 PM

Ok they only paid £27, £25 for the room and a £2 tip for the boy

ianmiller999 03 November 2003 03:15 PM

No missing pound, you have to read it carefully

Hobo_Jojo 03 November 2003 03:22 PM

i got it :D confused me for about 2 minutes :)

Paulo P 03 November 2003 03:25 PM

Sounds logical :o Having a bad day here

-=Buzz=- 03 November 2003 03:27 PM

£25/3 = £8.3333333333 NOT £8.00

Anyone stuck should start with that... :)

TelBoy 03 November 2003 03:27 PM

Another way to think of it (in case anyone is getting a headache!)

All the blokes pay £9, ie £27 total. The manager says he only needs £25, so there's two pounds change. Thee three blokes give it to the doorman as a tip.

So at no point does £29 ever come into it. The phrasing of the question misleads you. :)

MadGrip 03 November 2003 03:40 PM

3 X £9 = £ 27:00 (amount paid by guests)
1 X £2 = £ 2:00 (bell boy tip)

Total £29:00

Start thinking again !!

Phil
:D

TelBoy 03 November 2003 03:43 PM

MadGrip, would Swahili suit you better??!! :p

Read my post again!!! £29 has nothing to do with anything!! :D

S.B. 03 November 2003 03:44 PM

Guests pay £25 for room + £2 for bellboy = £27 (3x£9) :D

S.B. 03 November 2003 03:47 PM

:)

Dunk 03 November 2003 03:55 PM

Paid £30
Cost (£25)
Overpaid £5

Split:
Tip £2
Refund £3

What quid ?
It never existed.
