Hi
The Wife has just got a notice that she was caught doing 37 in a 30.
When do I need to inform our Insurance companies, now or a renewal?
If we tell them now will they up our premiums straight away or at renewal?
Thanks Simon

tell them now, but im sure it wont be valid till renewal.

Tez_H 23 October 2003 03:53 PM

there should not be any premium increase anyway for your first 3 points... :)
at least thats what i was told by direct line

It normally does not make any difference untill renewal, unless there is a change to the policy before it expires, then they will "add it".

Just done a quote online with an insurance company to see what happens with and without her conviction and it would puts my premium up by £80. Thats unfair, insurance companies are making money out of speeding fines. Thinking about it thats £400 over the next 5 years.

Best to just tell them ,I think small print will say you have to disclose any change in your circumstances, best mot to risk it .I had the same problem with a sp30 from the Missis and they put the premium up by about £50 per year .

Expect they could argue the case that speeders cause more claims - afterall you could hardly prove them wrong and they dont have to prove themselves right.

Would think some will put the premium up whilst others wont bother

Tell your wife that the insurance will no longer cover her.
Problem sorted and you get the Scoob to yourself ;)

Thing is she will probably drive everywhere within the limit from now on, so therefore is probably a safer driver. So insurance should go down!

Tell them now, it won't make a difference until renewal. If your renewal premium goes up because of the speeding offence, time to shop around. 'Most' companies worth their salt these days let the first 3 points go, as they are getting so common-place.

look at this site - especially the 'dont sign the NIP' threads. They cannot enforce speed camera law at the moment.

www.petrolheads.co.uk/gassing

Theres a whole section on Speeding, Plod and the Law. It should be every scooby drivers 2nd fave site!
