Anyone else getting porn pops on here. Had one earlier when editing a thread. Warning message with something like "opps we've screwed up." The you get a series of readers wives porn pop ups.
Is this a new section on Scoobynet? Maybe it should be?
Its just that I think I`m safe when I`m on here if she comes in.

Mark

Nothing to do with Scoobynet I'm afraid :)

Get yourself a copy of 'Adaware and SpyBot

Run both and I bet they will turn up some dodgy spyware or something similar on your PC.

Next question you have to ask yourself is how did it get on there in the first place ;)

Chris

wrxmark 18 September 2003 06:45 PM

I have no idea how they got there......Honest guvnor.;) I will run these and see how we go.

Chris L:

I posted above your last post with a link.

Ad-aware is good it’s a must have, you all must have a free copy.
You wont believe what some of these sites are up to on your computer and that’s with a fire wall up.
Cookie tracking and Browser Hijacking that changes your home page you all must have seen that going on.

Run the program and report back on here what its detected and killed for you, it will hit at least 10 to 20 infections of some sort

wrxmark 18 September 2003 10:04 PM

Unsuprisingly 20 plus hits on mine. Used to have this a while ago but started using spy something or other which was a pian in the arse. Adaware is much better now. The strange noise when its finished scanning the pc made me jump out of me skin or was that the Misses coming up the stairs ;)
Nice one cheers Ajax & Chris L

Just done it again now and 106.

Done it quite alot in between those and it comes up with something everytime.

Ajax 18 September 2003 10:29 PM

Worley:

These infections are slowing our computers down.

Its like a virus or spam, hope a few more realise what’s slowing their system down.

You don’t have to go any ware daft to get infected

Tracey 18 September 2003 10:33 PM

Yes, because I was getting loads and I mean loads of pop up's, not just porn ones, someone suggested I install adware and I couldn't believe it when I 1st ran it.

My pc is really slow at the moment, so something isn't right, when I get time, I will go through everything and see what else is wrong

Cheers

just downloaded Spybot and it found another 20 infections for me

Chris L 18 September 2003 11:26 PM

I don't know - you give all this information away for free :) I get charged out at $2000 a day for this stuff!

Ajax - I saw you had posted after my reply went up (only about 3 mins between them) - didn't think it was worth editing.

Thanks

Ajax 18 September 2003 11:51 PM

Stretched the truth a bit, under 6 seconds but who’s counting ;)

Houghton 19 September 2003 01:30 AM

So this is what happens when you follow topics with the word 'porn' in them:). Glad I did and followed the advise here. I downloaded the two programmes and Adaware found 219 hits Spybot, another 15. I've been plagued with these flippin pop-ups (although not the porn ones :( for flippin ages. Can't believe how useful this Forum is, I've been on here a few weeks and finding useful info all over the place.

Many Thanks,
I'll be back:)

fast bloke 19 September 2003 09:10 PM

Just used spybot immunize - It seems to have blocked the entire muppet forum

Chris L 19 September 2003 09:29 PM

LOL FB :)

If you want some extra protection, download SpywareBlaster. This program sits in the background and stops most spyware crap from even being loaded. It is not a replacement for SpyBot or Adaware, just another good little program. You'll find if you search through the settings in SpyBot that it actually recommends this program. Very effective and well written. Just run the update program every now and again to get the latest signature files.

Boro 19 September 2003 10:24 PM

Just run it and found 12 :o all gator software!

Tracey 20 September 2003 09:16 AM

Funnily enough, most of mine are gator

What is gator?

Boro 20 September 2003 10:00 AM

Isnt it just one of the more "common" spyware programs?

class_A 20 September 2003 11:05 AM

Eugh, Gator and CometCursor are basically Spyware programs (as is KaZaa). They "read" the webpages that you view then display targetted advertising based on what you look at.

Get AdAware, KaZaa Lite (if you must use P2P) and also download the Mozilla browser so you can use the web without pop-ups.

If you really like/need MSIE and can't change to Mozilla, try AvantBrowser. It takes the IE rendering engine and adds some useful features on top, such as pop-up blocking etc.

Tracey 20 September 2003 01:18 PM

Thanks
