Soulgirl - the uprated pump fitted to my car by WMS Tuning a few weeks ago was the Sytek Motorsport (good for applications up to 500bhp)! - there is also a lower throughput one made by Sytec called an "upgrade" and that is good for applications up to 350bhp

"motorsport" price £130 + VAT from WMS Tuning in Wincanton
01329 32999.

If you or anyone else wants one I am sure they would be delighted to supply one.

Sytec are a well known brand - used in all types of Motorsport including Formula 1 - so regardless of how much you paid for it the pump will be a good one! I suspect that the difference in price is because the people you dealt with have charged full retail price as opposed to discounting it.

Karen,

Had a bit of a look about on the web and found a list of In Fuel Tank Pumps made by Sytec

http://www.fuelsystem.co.uk/new_page_3.htm

Prices for the Classic are either £106.75 or £110 for the Motorsport Unit.

Hope that is of some use to you.

Ian

Soulgirl 02 September 2003 10:15 PM

So, based on those prices, I have really been charged an additional £100! Right.. that does it.

£311.00 I coughed up today! £35 recovery, £52.50 labour and £177 for the part, plus VAT...

Mr Trite shall be hearing from me very shortly.

RON 02 September 2003 10:39 PM

SG,
the pump fits in the fuel tank, so you'd have to take the back seat out to fit/see it, the black thing is the filter,
Does it feel any different to how it was the other day, It'd be interesting to know..

Ron.

highlander 02 September 2003 11:14 PM

The car won't "feel" any different - "you" might because you are happy that the pump can feed enough fuel to the business end!!

Although your "wallet end" might feel a bit lean!!!!

Soulgirl 03 September 2003 05:57 AM

It's more responsive and not so laggy now Ron... and yes Highlander... my wallet feels oh so light :D

ScoobyDuck 03 September 2003 04:15 PM

Karen,

maybe a bit of extra noise from the tank area, if you crouch down by the n/s/r wheel ??
what was their response for charging you an extra 77 quid (+vat?) ontop of the price you can buy it from anyone else???

Steve

I haven't written yet. I am composing as we speak :)

As you are aware, my Subaru Impreza (N5 GRL) was taken poorly on Tuesday 26 August. I arranged with your garage to have her collected and transported by ambulance to you the next day. That charge being reasonable together with your labour costs.

I was told the next day that she was suffering from a “dead fuel pump” and that you had ordered the part that should either be arriving on the Thursday or Friday.

I called eagerly on Thursday to be told it hadn’t arrived. I called again on the Friday to be told it hadn’t arrived. I called again on the Saturday to be told yet again it hadn’t arrived. I asked at that point if you had chases the said part and was told yes but there was no answer to their phone.

I called again on Monday to be told it hadn’t arrived. I said at that point that I would order my own part that would be a guaranteed arrival for the next morning and was told that “wasn’t ideal”. Upon questioning why that was I was told “because we have already ordered it and paid over the telephone by credit card”. I asked for the telephone number of your supplier but this was refused.

I said that I could still order my part and you could return yours. I was told at that point it was definitely arriving. I was given an approximated delivery of that night or the following early morning by a cheerful Mr Vey. Not the same person I had spoken to earlier that day.

I called Tuesday morning at around 10am to be told it still hadn’t arrived but that it was due to be delivered at Midday. Miffed and upset I said I would call again after lunch. I didn’t have to because I was called to be advised my car was ready for collection.

I asked what part had been fitted and he didn’t know. When I picked her up the account merely said “fuel pump”. That in my opinion was not good enough. With such a (dare I say) prestige(ish) car it is very important to document any repairs or upgrades in case of future sale.

I asked him to find out what make it was and he said he didn’t know. I asked him to check the box it came in and he said it didn’t come in a box. I reiterated that I wanted to know what it was so he went through to the workshop to enquire. He came back and said “Sytec”… I wasn’t in the mood to argue after driving that **** heap of a Nova that had failed brakes on the way so wrote that down and came home after paying.

I checked on the internet and there are several models of Sytec Fuel Pumps. The price you have charged seems very inflated indeed. I would like to know which one I have. Please can you check on your invoice and advise me which fuel pump I have been supplied with so I can keep my records up to date.

I am complaining that is for sure, but not in a derogatory way. I just feel that the service I received was not demonstrable of the service I have received in the past. What also miffed me quite markedly was the fact that when ever I have come to you for service I am never consulted about what part is being ordered until you have ordered it (the exception being my exhaust system). I know I could ask but I feel it should be explained to me why you are ordering that part and what my alternatives could be. I was quite anxious to know that it was an up rated pump because I am planning future works to up my power etc… I know most of the time parts are available at almost half the price than garages supply so it would only have been courtesy to advise me what you were planning to order. Also, would it be in order to supply my own parts in future or at least be advised in advance what you are ordering?

So, in finishing, I would like to know the exact make and model of my pump for my records.

Karen,

A good read, dare I say it but there are 1 or 2 spelling mistakes, ones that a spell checker wouldn't pick up.

Also, I wonder if they would have asked you first if the car needed a new engine, or would they have just ordered one, and would they be able to tell you what it was once they'd fitted it!!!

Se ya on monday??

Ron.

highlander 03 September 2003 11:05 PM

Soulgirl - its a pity to hear about garages that treat customers the way you have been treated - I would heartily recommend that you use a garage that specialises in Jap high performance cars - they are much more dependent on maintaining good relationships with their customers due to the nature of the type of person that owns these cars. We all talk about them etc... and if someone does something wrong to one of our babies, boy do we throw a tantrum!!!!

Most of them are very knowledgeable and not too expensive - above all my experience is that they are courteous and informative of anything they plan to do to your car.

RON 03 September 2003 11:10 PM

Thats just it, the garage in question have been set-up as a specialist, they even bought all Chalelgates Subaru tools, and all the manuals etc.

Ron.

ps, when I asked if the car felt any better, I had driven it the week before, as karen thought there was a problem with it, it turns out there might have been the start of one, and it DOES feel better now!

highlander 04 September 2003 12:29 AM

Oh Dear!!! I'm afraid they won't last very long if the way Soulgirl has been treated is anything to go by!!

I can heartily recommend WMS Tuning in Wincanton - I live in Gosport and I make the drive to Wincanton any time I want something done to the car.
I'm taking my car to Bob Rawle for ecu and mapping but for any other stuff I want done I go to WMS - why? because they are a pleasure to deal with!!! :-)

If they find something wrong with your car they will explain it (patiently, while my non expert mind digests it) and will explain what they recommend doing and make sure that is OK with you. They are also happy to fit parts that you bring to them.

Soulgirl 04 September 2003 06:04 AM

Ron.. the spelling errors were deliberate... I want to maintain my "blond" persona http://www.thesoulgirl.com/emotis/whistling2.gif. Did you mean Chapelgate? LOL.

Yep - see you Monday.

As far as using another garage - Wincanton is far far away.. Triton are just up the road and Ron was right, they do now posess the manual and stuff so that's all good. They just need to get their customer service bit right.

Soulgirl 10 September 2003 07:24 AM

Oh NOOOOOOOO! It's happened again! I did say to Ron the other night I heard a strange chattering sound:( So, ringing Triton today to whisk her off by ambulance again :(

ScoobyDuck 10 September 2003 05:19 PM

for free I hope !! ??

Soulgirl 10 September 2003 05:46 PM

He picked it up on the trailer and said he drove it for about 5 miles around the garage and it was fine. It wasn't fine!! He said he would try it first thing in the morning. He will also check the fuel pump.

The symptoms were identical to before. I will have more news tomorrow I guess :(

Soulgirl 11 September 2003 11:37 AM

Garage called me... he said nothing wrong with the fuel pump. He said that the idle speed valve could have been dirty where the exhaust gasses recirculate causing carbon deposits in the valve. He said he has cleaned out the valve and it is running fine.

My question is this. Would the symptoms have been exactly the same for a dirty idle speed valve and a dead fuel pump? Or have they replaced my fuel pump when it wasnt needed??? Thoughts anyone?

Soulgirl 11 September 2003 05:40 PM

Got my baby back and she feels 100% :)

That is all
