Will a muffler of a bug-eye fit a Classic? - or can it be made to fit without having to make a new inlet pipe? ;)
cheers Mick :D |
No it won't fit. You are probably better off seling the old back box and buying a new one (new or second hand).

Oh well... No harm done - yet ;)

I'm pretty sure it just needs a different 'arm' - the APS units fit both, just have 2 arms in different places - one for the classic, one for the fugly. So it can just be welded on.

Nom - you mean the hangers that attach to the rubber isolators?
If the pipe run is the same then that is perfect... Cheers Mick :D |
Yup, them hangers is what I is talkin about :)
The rest's the same. |
Having set up a jig to hold a 'classic' system and put in a 'bug-eye' system. It becomes apparent that the main difference in the 2 parts is the hanger in front of the box.
We cut off the front hanger close to the pipe and moved it from the RHS of the pipe to the LHS and welded it in the correct position. The box is a little longer and comes very close to the anti-roll bar on my mates car (00MY), he is inserting an extra 8 mm flange as a spacer. The STi 7 system I fitted on mine (97MY) seemed to be OK with regard to clearance to the anti-roll bar. We are both pleased with the results. I will see if I can post any photos of the mods.
