what's the best way to get rid of rats

beemerboy 15 July 2003 01:33 PM

clean your house......

BB:)

Badger Stuffer 15 July 2003 01:35 PM

Poison if you have no pets.

Call the council and they will send someone out to you.

Or as Daren says......stop living like a pig.

:D

We've got a grain storage barn, and some other sheds round by us and hence loads of BIG rats.

The best way to kill them is with Rat Pack or similar. Really nasty stuff and kills em by stopping any cutts clotting so they blead to death. Nice.

The most fun way me and my brother found was to take our dog (Collie) with us when we were lifting the last of the hay from the shed (As there was always rats under it) and let the dog go at them. It used to go mental and kill loads of them. We used Grapes (metal pitch fork like things) to stab the one the dog didnt get. Nasty but effective.

Ratts are F**king horrid things, and vicous to boot.

neighbours have a loose manhole cover, it looks like they are coming up through it but there is no obvious food source for them

not sure what is attracting them

Tiggs 15 July 2003 01:38 PM

let me know if you find out, my kids rats are still living despite my best efforts.

CarpetCleaner 15 July 2003 01:42 PM

are rats agressive?

Tiggs 15 July 2003 01:52 PM

no- but they are defensive....put one in a box then jab it with your finger mockingly and it will bite you. (tested)

Tiggs

ps- my bullterrier (lives at my parents house as it eats children) is a good rater...maybe i should hire him out to all you "how clean is your house" wannabes!

CarpetCleaner 15 July 2003 02:05 PM

if one got in the house would it be attracted to people as in BO

Little Miss WRX 15 July 2003 02:22 PM

Tiggs, maybe STI go fast could give you a few tips. ;)

Sith 16 July 2003 09:52 AM

Tiggs - If you put me in a box and started jabbing me I would hurt you!

beemerboy 16 July 2003 09:54 AM

i reckon, a severely peed off rat, would kill a horse, easily!!!

BB:)

Nevetas 16 July 2003 09:59 AM

I'll come and shoot em for ya.

KungFuMonkey 16 July 2003 12:30 PM

Their not out and out aggresive things (ie wont go and attack you for no reason) but if they feel threated by your presence they're not shy at trying to give you a nip.

beemerboy 16 July 2003 12:44 PM

urban rats have evolved at twice the speed of humans.

they are not afraid to carry weapons of mouse destruction, and as they have no fixed abode, or distiguising marks, the police are powerless.

as a rat will nor rat on a rat, its hard to find witnesses too.

unclebuck 16 July 2003 01:00 PM

KungFuMonkey - Class!!:D

I used to have some mates with a pair of dachshunds. During the afternoon they would rig a massively powerful bulb in the stables and put some food out. Then we would go back late in the evening with the dogs, fire the light up and throw them into the stable. Tha carnage was something to behold:eek:

No more rats for a while though :D

wrex69 16 July 2003 01:11 PM

i'd be careful with poisoning as they will probably crawl off into a remote corner of the house to die and when the begin to rot the smell will be horrific!!!! i'd say get in a pro or invest in a whole pile of kick ar5e rat traps!!

Bravo2zero_sps 16 July 2003 01:32 PM

UB those are highly intelligent dachshunds if they can rig up a massively powerful lightbulb and put food out ;)

CarpetCleaner 16 July 2003 01:33 PM

if the wife was sleeping in the nuddy and the ***** smells a bit you don't think a rat would be tempted to have a nibble?

beemerboy 16 July 2003 01:57 PM

CC: i think you'd be in more danger, erm... with the old cheese, if you know what i mean.

harse but lies, i tell ya.

BB:)

beemerboy 16 July 2003 02:59 PM

he shoots, he scores.... first corner in my life!!!

BB:)

ProperCharlie 16 July 2003 03:10 PM

A friend of mine had a rat in the house. I gave him some bait and soon the rat was no longer seen or heard. Feckin terrible smell was brewing though. I was round there a couple of weeks later and suggested that the smell required a bit more investigation... lifted up the sofa and there was a big bloated rat - 2 weeks decomposed

There were no volunteers for scraping it off the carpet.

CarpetCleaner 16 July 2003 05:11 PM

should have got the carpet cleaner in

fitzscoob 16 July 2003 05:19 PM

shotgun + beers and you have yourself a real life computer game.

after each shot weigh the remains of the rat, and for every ounce left deduct points :)
