Need ramps really,
Gearbox out Clutch plate/cover off Re machine flywheel/replace Put back together Its not an easy job for a first time, you need up to 3 people to move the box around to locate it (purely as they weigh so much even on a craddle) My advice would be if you don't have ramps, air tools or a lifting craddle, go to a specialist As for clutches, there are many cheap alternatives around, though I would always recommend a standard genuine subaru clutch or Helix/AP for an uprated version |
you can either remove the engine to do it.. or remove the box.. it can be done on a garage floor but you need it a little higher than average axlestands.. maybe 4 Inch higher.. also jack up the rear as well to help remove the prop.
as said remove the box.. (release clutch arm / fork), linkage prop.. speedo cable / sensor / cables.. unbolt clutch cylinder.. unbolt all bolts remove.. as above really.. I have done gearboxes on the garage floor... see projects thread for me refitting a 6spd.. into MY94.. took 30mins.. Just need a good jack with fairly high lift. also done them on ramps with a transmission stand.. still not convinced it was easier.. Both P20SPD and I have posted pics / instructions. David |

Is this easy to change yourself ? Does the engine require removal ? Any special tools needed ? Edited to add - What clutch should I replace this with ?? Car running around 300bhp Just away to read any previous threads [Edited by caz1562 - 7/9/2003 1:50:55 AM] |
