Just noticed in the front cover of the new Harry Potter book that Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has been translated into Latin!
Who's going to read that?? [Edited by Mice_Elf - 23/06/2003 10:11:16] |

Romanes Eunt Domus! :p;)
|
I can almost HEAR the cogs turning as people dredge up their Latin phrases! :D :p
I didn't say it was a dead language, just that I can't see many youngsters of today sitting down for a spot of light reading with the Latin Harry Potter. :D |
Harry Potter is a tw@t... not latin, but I'm sure there is a translation.:p
|
might encourage kids to learn latin, and thus the basis of european language, not a bad thing, broadens the mind.

BB, can you honestly see parents picking up the Latin version and believing that little Timmy will like this book, when the English version is sat next to it? :D :D
If they do buy it, then fair play, but I doubt little Timmy will be impressed. Besides, when he points at a word and says "What's that?" what are they going to say? Unless they speak Latin fluently... Do "Muggles", "Dementors", "Every Flavour Jelly Beans" and "Flew Powder" translate into Latin well? "Diagon Alley" is another "joke" that will translate badly... :D |

So, who died?
|
Surely it's "Flue Powder" i.e. powder that lets you transport by using a flue (chimney)?
