Trying to insure the scoob for another year.
Currently have insurance with Highway who are quite competitive at just over £1000. Am 27 and live in Sussex.
Been ringing around a few firms and have had a total nightmare!
Problem I have is when we come to discussing mods. All I have done is add PPP and uprated front breaks to MY02 WRX.
Insurers say that PPP isn't recognised and counts this as several smaller mods. This means that most insurance companies aren't interested.
Would feel a lot better if I was paying sub £1000.
Any ideas to help me out.
Thanks

I am with Adrian S Flux, Elephant.co.uk were also very good, both do mods

Cheers barge. Spoke to Adrian Flux today. Quoted me twice the amount Highway quoted!
Maybe I've got a good deal at £1000?

Have a look in the insurance forum...seem to remember Liverpool +Victoria were good as far as mods are concerned, also Tesco seem to have a lot of mods listed .
Good luck
Dave.

Greenlight are happy with mods too, I'm sure you'll find their number if you look in 'insurance'

brandy76 05 June 2003 09:35 PM

Thanks guys. Will give them all a call tomorrow.

Just to give you a clue of how stupid insurance is ,I got my renewal last month with Elephant...me and wife ,both 36 full NCD living out in the sticks .etc £1050 !Tried Churchill and got it for £560 with all the bells and whistles (don't think Churchill like mods though ). So it does pay to call around , even though it's a bore !
good luck with the 'you are in a que, all of our operaters are busy at the moment' tomorrow !

My renewal for a legacy (lower risk of theft etc) was £528 fully comp for the basic cover. THis includes declared mods of exhaust system, later subaru alloys and something else I can't remember. This is with adrian flux, and they then wanted an extra £120 or so for a 25% increase in power. How this will be as a complete policy I don't know.

28, semi rural postcode, full NCB, proof of driving high performance cars (I needed that when taking out initial policy, and have been named driver on me dads BMW 540(s) for 8 years or o).

Sometimes I see really good quotes for adrian flux, sometimes really bad. I think the problem is unless you fit nicely into one of theur prefered client groups you're going to have a hard time.

Is yours a PPP car or a 'Prodrive Edition' car? If it's the later then you might be able to swing it as unmodified.

try bell direct or Tesco or Elephant.

pilkster 05 June 2003 10:09 PM

About to buy my first scoob, tesco want trackers fitted, which, ive heard cost £300+. Can anyone give a good insurer to call?? Im 28 with full ncb?? Ta..

brandy76 05 June 2003 10:21 PM

Already got a cat 1 imobiliser and RAC Trackstar fitted to mine. Still can't get a decent quote though below £1000.
Have full 5 years no claims and no convictions.
Still, little point moaning all the fun I get out of driving it!

pilkster 05 June 2003 10:26 PM

Been Quoted £921 with tesco as long as theres a tracker on it, maybe worth a try if youve got the tracker brandy??

ADP 05 June 2003 10:45 PM

tesco require a tracker, bell direct/admiral/elephant (all the same basically) dont

personally its a good idea to have one I think, esp if you live in a rough area

GLIM 05 June 2003 11:46 PM

Just renewed mine today with Bell direct, sti8 with ppp. Me and the long haired one, both 33, 7yrs ncd, no convictions, and advanced driver- £570.

I,d recommend them for a try.

Glim.

People have been getting really good quotes from Liverpool Victoria. Think you need to be over 30 for new shape but not for classics. Search the threads on here.

Liverpool Victoria - have to be over 30 for a classic.

Hel 06 June 2003 10:54 PM

brandy76 - subaru insured(schofields) definately know that a PPP is one thing - worth a try

Try the AA, their quotes aren't bad and will fit a tracker for free.

ashley wrx 08 June 2003 04:20 PM

I would try L&V i just got a quote for my 98 type R with 6 pionts [sp30] but i have 6 years NCD for £800,the cheapest i got before that was £1100 from tesco, but they wanted a tracker, if my car ever got stolen i wouldnt want it back after some to rag had thrashed it t*ts off
