OllieC 01 June 2003 09:40 PM

Is that the RS6?

Ray_li 01 June 2003 09:43 PM

Dont have a clue... whats a RS6?

Maddriver 01 June 2003 09:57 PM

BBC1 22.15

Da Booga 01 June 2003 10:04 PM

It starts at 22.15 :)

An RS6 is a high performance Audi but is it not an Audi S8 thats in Ronin? As well as an M5 iirc.

Good chase, but dreadful film.

CrisPDuk 02 June 2003 09:51 AM

I've always felt that the chase with the S8 (don't forget there was a 605, an XM & a 680SEL in there too) was just the appetiser for the second chase, with the 405 & the 535 through Paris.

Frankenheimer pioneered the idea - now used by most directors - of putting the star in the left hand side of a UK spec car with a dummy steering wheel. De Niro's face when that 405 is flying round the Paris underpasses is brilliant, he is hanging on to that wheel whilst simultaneously filling his shorts:D

I don't reckon the film itself was that bad either. Let's face it, it's better scripted than the Italian Job. and you won't find any bloke over 30 on here prepared to slag THAT off:D

How can a Citroen XM keep up with an Audi S8 (with bigger injectors and NOS)???

Fab film, but it's like racing a Scooby against a TT ;):):D

Fab film otherwise though.......

medders 02 June 2003 10:55 AM

I've just agreed sale of my P1 for an S8, so I was grinning throughout the chase scene :)

Feck-Feck!
Fell asleep just before the chase scene, too much red vin!

Damn good film IMHO, great cast, well scripted and directed, a classic and my fave car chase of all time - And i missed it!"!"!

wiltshire_boy 02 June 2003 11:01 AM

Didn't Citroen do a version of the XM with a Maserati powerplant? Or have i just made that up?

P1Fanatic 02 June 2003 11:20 AM

Yer it was an S8. What pissed me off was the whole bit about trying to ram the Citroen off the road which seemed a bit of a hit and miss idea.

I personally didnt like the bits with Robert De Niro driving - he was doing that usual movie thing by constantly moving the steering wheel left and right even when travelling dead straight.

Simon.

The SM had a 2.7 V6 from Maserati in 1970. Don't know about the XM but I doubt it as Citoen didn't have a share in Maserati then.

Scooby Snacks 23 02 June 2003 12:58 PM

About the only thing that Citroen and Maserati share is the worst depreciation possible :):):):)

Wicked Film...the chase is with an M5 and a 406 through the tunnel....then when the BMW crashes at the end it is a different car...and has different wheels.

Good chase though...

wiltshire_boy 02 June 2003 01:42 PM

You're absolutely right Mark, it was the SM not the XM. Did a little search and found This :)

wiltshire_boy 02 June 2003 01:54 PM

Also, according to Parkers website, the XM was available as 3L V6 @ 200 BHP and the 24 valve derivative could do 0-60 in 7.5 and 146 flatout!

Not bad for a floaty old Franco-barge.

matty01 02 June 2003 03:02 PM
