the 172 sport looks good for the mrs but the V6 is more of a beast or isit?
with 255bhp to the rear wheels

TVR Gary 29 May 2003 11:25 AM

Had a look at one in my local showroom and the body kit looked like it had been fitted by a five year old .....

I had two 172's and fancied an upgrade. They were selling it cheap and when i went to look at it i realised why. Plastic pig and only an ex demo car with 1000 miles on the clock

Still got one of the 172's though.

reports on the mk2 V6 that i've seen say that it is now built by Renault only and is alot better with the extra 25bhp stiffer handling etc. Havent seen one yet

TVR Gary 29 May 2003 11:41 AM

I think i would want a bloody good look at one before i parted with me hard earned.

fatherpierre 29 May 2003 11:43 AM

Agree with Gary.

I looked at one a bit back and the quality of the stick on extras was terrible.

It looked uneven like a cheap Halfords body kit. And this was their demonstrator car.

Nice inside though.

shame about that as i can image loads of sideways fun from one

fatherpierre 29 May 2003 11:53 AM

Best thing to do is have a look for a good one as they can't surely have all been made this badly?

Don't pay top whack for one, though. They had big trouble shifting them. Which must point to it not being much better than the 172.

JBcos 29 May 2003 11:57 AM

did they ever sell any of those Spiders

Ciaran 29 May 2003 12:04 PM

a172 is actually quicker to 60 and is meant to handle better than the V^ aswell

chrispy200+ 29 May 2003 12:05 PM

not driven one but i went to have a look at one and the quality of the body kit looked more like an aftermarkt kit than something from the factory. If you looked along the edges you could see indentations etc along them.
Saying that though they do look the absolute nuts and V6 RWD in a clio has got to be fun.

I think the new ones were being used as pace cars at thruxton on monday for the clio trophy challenge. Very nice looking in a deep red

TVR Gary 29 May 2003 01:10 PM

French clutter .......

and i should know i own one .... well a 172 anyway

JBcos 29 May 2003 01:18 PM

same build quality as the bean tin badged R5 then?

Rich D 29 May 2003 09:24 PM

They aint that impressive...

My mate actually sold his mk1 V6 and got a Cup instead, as he gets the same performance, better handling, more MPG, looks less like a poser and it costs 1/2 the price!

;)
