Chaps...

If I have an AFR meter, do I really need a knocklink as well?
17PSI with a Dawes. (UKMY'99)
Just thought that If i am running ok I should not knock

James.

Hi James,

the afr tells you the mixture of fuel/air, the knock detector tells you of ANY noises inside the engine, be it knock, whine etc a different kettle of fish and a highly useful one if you want any advance warning of any noises which could lead to large bills.

Peter.

Thanks Pete

AFR is an alternative to Lambda Link AFAIK, hence the reason I chose an AFR gauge over a Lambdalink, and still have my Knocklink fitted :)

Just fitting an AFR can you tell me what wire on the ECU I should connect to.
Thanks John

Please

Not fitted mine yet, this weekend all being well :)

James,

As I understand it, the fact that your AFR readings are ok does not mean that your engine might not be detonating due to overboost and/or ignition advance. That is why you need a Knocklink as well.

Les :)

Help,

what wire where for my mVolt pickup for the AFR Voltage?
I have two white and one black wire from the exhaust sensor.

UK MY'99. (I'd rather pick up at the ECU if I knew where it was.

James.

James

I picked mine up from the ECU Blue Connector B136, pin 21 White with Silver dots :)

mine is a MY00, and as Im running a MY99 ECU it should be the same

Bugger,

There is more than one white wire with silver dots.
How do the numbers count on the connector?

James

I think its the 3rd row down, 3rd one in I think

Sonic,

I found the thread, and wired the baby up. :)

Tell me, does everyones AFR flash up and down when on the cruise, and only display a sensible reading once you floor the throttle (like three green lED's lit).

If i blip the throttle when standing still, it hovers around the green only to eventually turn off completely when the engine idles again.

When I first turn on the ignition, the first LED (green) lights until I start the engine.

Is this correct operation?

Thanks,

James.

Wish mine did that :(

basically yep thats right what yours is doing, mine however does do as yours does, till I get to about 4k rpm, then it drops straight round to lean, then off, and then stays off till im idling again

Jamesn 28 May 2003 09:48 AM

Oh err.

Thanks for the replies though.

Jamesn 28 May 2003 11:44 AM

It does worry me a little with these guages that if we pull the Voltage from the sender down (with the AFR) that the ECU might not be reading correctly.
