My MY95 STI RA is fantastic to drive until you get on the motorway...she does 100mph at 6000rpm!!!!!!

Dom.

Mine has got aircon but that is it...I do miss the central locking as I'm constantly leaving the back doors unlocked!!!

YHM ;)

hail-hail 02 April 2003 11:52 AM

I had a STi RA and now have an STi3.

Depends what you are looking for in a car

RA: Stripped out, light weight, mad!
RA: No electric windows, central locking, ABS, Aircon.
STi3: Still fecking quick and has all of the above :D

Loved my RA, it was my first scoob, STi3 much better as I get great performane and a bit of luxury aswell.

hope this helps

:D

Pavlo 02 April 2003 12:43 PM

strangly the RA normally has aircon, pre97 ones did anyway

Just bought an STi 2 RA vLtd - it's got all the leccy bits and aircon but all of the toys too.

Acceleration is mad, the gearbox feels great, its an awesome car.

However doing about 50mph in 5th I do feel like I should be changing up, but I've run out of gears!

Depends on what you want it for, mine is primarily a toy, it sees 100mph only on the straights and I don't do a lot of motorway crusing in it so the close ratio box is a benefit rather than a curse. If I wanted to drive big distances on a regular basis though, I'd go for a Type R.

scooby_si 03 April 2003 11:34 AM

How wood a type R be any better long journeys it's still got a super short gear ratio also just marginally more mod cons as i understnad it, did u mean normal STi?
SI

RRH 03 April 2003 11:36 AM

Type R has similar gearing to the RA.
Not great for long distance cruising, but i love mine all the same;)

KRM 03 April 2003 12:02 PM

Final drive on a type R is longer, so all the gears are slightly longer. Plus 5th/6th in a type R is longer anyway I think, depending on MY?

TRIGGER 03 April 2003 12:22 PM

This all depends on the version. Version 4 RA's and onwards have a more reasonable gearbox. Some earlier ones had really short ratio boxes. Max speed was geared to abt 127 mph on a version 2 I saw.

My version 4 has full climate but no other electrics - I would prefer to have atleast central locking, but make do as the acceleration is fantastic.

KRM 03 April 2003 08:13 PM

130ish sounds about right on my version 2 :D But it doesn't half get there quick!! :) :) :)

Diablo007 03 April 2003 10:17 PM

There is no 6th on a type R. Six speed only came out on the STi 7.

scoootie5 03 April 2003 10:32 PM

My MY94 WRX RA does 120mph red-lining
