Does anyone have experience of 225/45-17 tyres on a classic? I´m thinking of Falken Azenis in that dim. on my Compo. MO1775 et 50, no rolled arches.
Please help! |
No. Usual sizes are 205/45/17 and 215/40/17 for the Classic if you want to keep a similar rolling radius!

My cousin (swansea scooby doo) runs this size in dunlops on his STI V on 17s. Drop him a line at this thread he posted earlier :

WhitWheels, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I am contemplating exactly the same idea, did you try it/ if so, do the tyres rub at all?
|
225/45x17 tyres will most likely not fit without rubbing, unless you roll in the arches etc. They might be fine without anything in the car, or in a straight line, but they'll most likely rub at the rear under heavy loads.
These tyres are some 5% "taller" in terms of gearing than the more normal 215/40x17, which means your speedo will be under-reading by 5%, but more importantly, your acceleration could be some 5% slower due to the bigger tyres/taller gearing. As there's virtually no difference in price (the 225s might be slightly more expensive), I can't see any real reason for wanting to go to this size. The standard suspension certainly wouldn't be optimised for a tyre of this size/width. John |
Thanks for the info John, I was only contemplating this tyre size because that is the size fitted to some wheels I am thinking of buying on the forum. I would prefer to have 215/45s, but you have to take whats available! By the way, what does "rolling the arches" entail?! sounds drastic!
