Dream Weaver 21 March 2003 09:16 AM

Finally got my 205 XS running yesterday, and went out for a 50 mile spin to shake it up a bit.

It is 14 years old, a bit rattly, and needs a new driveshaft but they are still superb cars to drive the old 205's :D

Defo fancying a mint 1.9 now as well - better than having loads of money in something that is marginally quicker :)

Cue, ScoobyJawa, Mista Weava, and Blackscooby ;)

Blackscooby 21 March 2003 09:48 AM

Ours should be better now after we replaced the rear beam. Bushes and the beam were completely shot.

Should handle much better this season then it ever has :D :D

Glad to hear that the 205 can still make you :D :D

Don't forget I'm an ex Pug owner too! :)
(I'll be wanting a play in Weava's Pug at some point, as I miss my old one a bit...)

Olly 21 March 2003 11:30 AM

Wahey! Another 205 appreciation thread coming up. :)

Rich D 21 March 2003 11:52 AM

Rich D 21 March 2003 01:29 PM

Selling my R5 GTT "play car" actually and may well replace it with a 205 for track day fun! :D

Dream Weaver 21 March 2003 02:07 PM

Rick, will swap you the XS for the GT ;)

Ex_Pug 21 March 2003 02:44 PM

My old GTi (now owned by parents) has just arrived back with me for the next week or so while I try and sell the Scooby to make way for the new one! I've not driven it again yet other than to shuffle it around on the drive-way, but even that made me smile! Insurance starts on it tomorrow... I'm just as excited about that as I am about getting the STi8 at the end of the month (probably!).

Expect new post with pics on 205GTidrivers forum soon to celebrate :) :)

Blackscooby 21 March 2003 02:44 PM

First event (albit Practice) next weekend in the Pug. Should be interesting after a full 18 months of not competing.

Bought a digital camcorder so should be able to record my exploits !

ScoobyJawa 21 March 2003 02:48 PM

Ex_Pug - I'll keep my eye out for the pics :D

Blackscooby - make sure you get them vids uploaded mate ;) :D

Dream Weaver 21 March 2003 03:07 PM

Neil what year is yours, 92? Or have the late spec lights been added afterwards?

Just found this one for sale near me:

Olly 21 March 2003 03:23 PM

I always liked 'em in white, the Old Boy bought my mother a brand new white one in 1988. Bloody hell, thats 15 years ago.

ScoobyJawa 21 March 2003 03:27 PM

Must say - 205 Gti's are the only car I've ever really though carried white off - look ace!

DW - Mines a Nov 1990 phase 2 car. The new rear lights were part of the phase 2, along with clear front indicators, black interior trim instead of grey and also black arches and side trim instead of grey. The phase 2 models came out around August 1990 I think - try and get one of them, reckon you'd be able to find one for the same price as that '88. (my first 1.9 I bought in about 1995 was a red phase 1 1998 F plater on 82k!! F668 VVC - still remember the reg!) The phase 2's look better mate ;)

Edit - I forgot about the indicators!

ScoobyJawa 21 March 2003 03:38 PM

What about, still a phase 1 (but easily updated ;)) and its a bit more but: ;)

S/R and full leather too - rare ;) And not that I'm colour biased either ;) :D

Olly 21 March 2003 03:45 PM

Or seeing as I am after a new motor, try twisting my arm again.. ;)

Dream Weaver 21 March 2003 04:51 PM

Neil, AFAIK, the phase 2 still had orange bits and bobs. My old GTi was a 90 but had old lights, hence I had to fit all the new spec lights myself.

I thought the new spec rear lights and hitw indicators came in in 92

ScoobyJawa 21 March 2003 05:01 PM

No mate late 90 was phase 2 which did indeed come with all the clear stuff :D Discussed at length on the 205gtidrivers site a few weeks ago. :)

If yours was a pre sept/aug 90, it would have been a 1 - of course there may still have been some around reg'd after that, but as far as we can all make out aug/sept 90 onwards was phase 2 :D Or indeed there could well have been crossover models with bits of both  LOL!!

Dream Weaver 21 March 2003 05:04 PM

PS Olly, keep hold of yours for now, then I can have it after the wedding. Dont want to spend anything on one yet, just looking for now ;)

Rich D 21 March 2003 05:47 PM

Rick, will swap you the XS for the GT
Keep dreaming... :P

Scotsman 21 March 2003 08:23 PM

Not got mine yet but hopefully within the next month a little old 205 gti will be sitting in the drive :)

Gary VR6 21 March 2003 08:29 PM

Phase 2 pugs were out in about Sept 1990. This means that most H reg cars are phase 2, and certainly any J, K and L (if you can find 'em) were. I had an Oct 90 (H) 1.6 gti with the clear indicators and nice back lights. Far better looking than my old 86 C reg 1.6 gti which it replaced. Dash was different and better, too.

scooby_si 21 March 2003 10:24 PM

ScoobyJawa 22 March 2003 12:19 AM

:D

Nice one scotsman :D:D:D

VinylJunkie 22 March 2003 07:40 AM

didn't they screw up the late model cars by putting a CAT on them?

Scotsman 22 March 2003 09:34 AM

ScoobyJawa :D

A guy not far away has a couple of 205 mi16's and has offered to advise and possibly help out with a conversion as well.

ScoobyJawa 22 March 2003 09:45 AM

:D:D:D Nice!

One of the guys on 25gtidrivers.com went to Bruntingthorpe in his 205 Mi16 the other day with a load of other pugs. I think his is putting out around 170bhp, and he had the 0-60 record that day od 6.39 secs :D

VJ - the CAT was an optional extra from 1990 and compulsory I think whenever it became law, dropped the power to 122bhp and slightly slower 0-60, but still the same superb handling :)

scooby_si 22 March 2003 11:04 AM

there was a 205 with a cossie engine & 4 wheel drive at 1 of last years cov area scoob meets that had been in a few mags years back ;) nice flared wheel arches etc so the bugger wood fit in engine bay & even 1 of the blokes with a 22B said he wood rather have that as it was rarer  it was nice but there's limits ;)
