BT are doing the same with thier Satelite Broadband users. How long till the ADSL bods do the same??
|
*sigh*
NTL handled it badly but people have to realise that backbone bandwidth is not as cheap as ADSL/Cable and the whole infrstructure is not built (and therefore not costed!) to provide max throughput 100% of the time. These things are done by historical report so the odd ocassion isn't going to get you cut off. If you want an uncontested, guaranteed service 100% of the time - buy a leased line. Deano |
1gb a day - seems fair enough to me. £20 a month all in for what has been a stable and fast service is awesome after using a modem for years before.
If u want to download more then be prepared to pay for it. If any of you knew how much it costs to maintain, upgrade and improve an ISP backbone then I think you would agree that £20 pm is a veritable bargain for what you are getting. Hence any company who has mission critical apps uses a leased line. Simon. |
Mmmm I love a well put together web page ;)

Hello
I think it's the banning of VPN that is more worrying. The whole point of my broadband (from Zen) is that I can work at home and connect to the office. Steve. |
Its the tip of the iceberg i think, having looked at adsl packages in spain etc they are all going metered dsl access over there and in other countries.

Interesting site, not the nicest, and not on it's own in condemning NTL for their actions, but like p1f said, it's not all doom and gloom, and I would question anyone's ability to justify a regular average of 1Gb per day download, sure the odd day, but a regular average ?
However ... http://www.ntlworld.com/legals/user-policy.htm 18. Use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) As stated above, the ntl Internet and/or Interactive Services are for residential use only and we do not support the use of VPN. If we find you are using VPN via the ntl IP network we may instruct you to stop using it and you must comply with this request. This is in order to prevent problems to ntl (eg network performance) and other Internet users. - Jon [Edited by scoob_dood - 2/17/2003 11:00:07 PM] |
Was hoping to set up a tunnel to my friends house, that's not for business. Will have to investigate.
|
If it helps, I've being using an IPSec client to access my work email for ages now, without any problems/complaints.

Jack:
Well, if you want to dig between your friends house and yours unless you disturb one of NTL's cables I don't think they will be too bothered. Steve. [Edited by boxst - 2/17/2003 11:17:50 PM] |
