Can anyone confirm the specs for the TD05 against TD04 turbos?

I'd like to know the spool up/rpm and max possible bhp for the TD05...

LimeyDrink 11 February 2003 01:18 PM

I too would like to know exactly how much difference there is between TD04 and TD05, what about the TD06

Difference between HP potential

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 01:21 PM

Mr Banks might know...???

RICH WILD 11 February 2003 02:11 PM

Hi,

Well I'm running 350ish BHP on a stock TD05 with 90 degree entry if that's any help.

This has been confirmed on 2 different rolling roads.

I also get a bar of boost by 3000-3200 rpm, but that's mainly due to the mapping. Was a lot slower before the Link ECU.

Cheers

Rich

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 02:13 PM

That's all I need to hear...thanks Rich...I want one.

I was looking at a VF30 but the lag is massive...almost 4000 rpm before decent puff.

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 02:15 PM

Anyone know a good place to buy the TD05 and does it need 550 jets + uprated fuel pump?

P20SPD 11 February 2003 02:20 PM

I think once you go above 330bhp, then injectors equal to or below 440cc will be on max IDC, even with uprated fuel pump IMO. So 550's would be sensible IMO.

AlanG 11 February 2003 02:21 PM

Doesn't *need* 550 injectors, uprated fuel pump, but depends what level you want to take the car to and other mods to support the TD05.

Alan

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 02:23 PM

Thats what I thought...thanks

Anyone know a good place to buy the TD05, 550 jets and fuel pump? And if so, what price did you pay?

Denmark 11 February 2003 02:31 PM

Iirc MR/J from Sweden is making 1,4bar at around 3000rpm on a vf30 so it´s not more laggyer than a TD05

Skassa

Stuart Knight 11 February 2003 02:34 PM

Speak to Mark at http://www.lateralperformance.co.uk he can supply all you requirements (and that might necessarily be a standard TD05 :)

Denmark 11 February 2003 02:34 PM

UPS,
Sorry it´s not Mr.J

AndrewC 11 February 2003 02:38 PM

Turbo - Scrapyard ~£150, if you need a f/e conversion then about another £50-£70.

Injectors - Contact Pavlo on this BBS.

Fuel Pump - Walbro GSS342 from APE in the States ~£75.

Andrew...

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 02:40 PM

Denmark...that really true about the VF30 at 3000?? I was told that it would be around 1 bar at 3800...

I'll be contacting lat. performance...

Maybe add the cost to have the turbo checked over just in case there's any problem with it. Better safe than sorry..especially at 350 +..

Alan

AndrewC 11 February 2003 03:07 PM

Alan, I was only quoting basic costs, but you're quite correct to make that point.

Andrew...

jongould-work 11 February 2003 03:46 PM

what other turbos were avalible as standard? i have got a TD05 and i have got another one which i cant quite see the numbers on so im not sure what it is without removing it...

is the TD05 the one the one to have then??

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 04:05 PM

Hard to say for sure...depends what total BHP you're after and what spool up you want/loose.

I like the sound of it...TD05, but I'm also thinking VF30...

Deep Singh 11 February 2003 04:19 PM

Anthony,I found it quite difficult to get much info on the VF30.D'ont know why. My car has it as standard.I'm having my Ecutek tweaked by Pat tommorrow.I'll let you know where we acn get 1 bar boost by.

Absolute Shower 11 February 2003 04:21 PM

Cheers Deep, I'll sure be waiting to see the results...

Mr J 11 February 2003 04:29 PM

Denmark/Skassa

your correct~ I got 1.4bar with my VF30 in 4th gear @3200rpm
But that's in the winter. I think in the summer~3500-3600rpm would be more fair.

But I think Pat also got 1.35bar with ecutek and a STIVII arround 3000rpm's .

Hi Andrew

Wasn't a dig. Only mentioned it cause some of the TD05's out there will have "had a life"

I believe most secondhand ones are sourced from cars which are circa 6-7-8 years old now..

Good sturdy units though..as far as i'm aware

Alan :)

JonGould 11 February 2003 05:53 PM

so which is generally the better unit for a standardish engine, just the usual zorst, filter, DV, chip and adjustable boost?

AndrewC 11 February 2003 07:04 PM

Alan,

No offence taken, as I said you were quite right to mention it.

Andrew...

john banks 11 February 2003 07:21 PM

Mine straight out of a scrapyard has been quite happy at 1.67 bar, no noises, no smoke, but I've not had it on the car long. It makes 315 BHP at the wheels.

VF34 (I presume?) on an STi 7 UK I mapped today could make 1 bar at 2650-2700 in 6th gear - basically the same as the TD05 FE. It went quite well, but difficult to compare with a TD05 given the heftier STi.

carlos_hiraoka 11 February 2003 08:30 PM

UK STi came with VF35's ..... smaller P15 housing.

:D

hi
following this topic as i am in line for a new turbo
I have a 1994 wrx wagon i dont have a clue whats in it just now After having the car 2 years thats pretty bad
i am sure someone here will know ,i guessed TD04
Its ran 1.2/1.3 bar for the last year and a half no probs
the only thing is its running out of steam by 5000 rpm dropping
back to standard boost pretty quick so a new turbo will sort it hopefully
Is front entry TD05 the way to go?

TrickyB 11 February 2003 11:26 PM

I meant to mention
i have a jun ecu just now
is that piggybacked on to my original ecu?
also would a p1 intercooler fit on my94wrx?
thanks in advance

john banks 11 February 2003 11:28 PM

Don't know about the Jun ECU. The P1 intercooler would not fit without extensive modifications to it or the car. Consider a ScoobyECU.

TrickyB 12 February 2003 12:30 AM

This turbo looks nice shame about the price
