Andy W 10 February 2003 11:04 PM

A friend is getting a serious run around from her rover dealer about parts for her MGF, in total her car has been in the garage for 6 of the 18 months she has owned it from new.
The latest in the saga is an electric window motor, with no-one at the dealership giving her any idea when a part might be available, the last time this happened the car sat for 4 months waiting on bloomin' door locks, the wrong locks were sent 5 times!!!

Would anyone have a contact number for someone at rover that might be able to help her out?

Cheers
Andy W

I see a few of these theyz are crap cars no mistake bits fall off

German or Jap motors are the way to go

MGJohn 11 February 2003 04:25 PM

way to go indeed ...... and very good for the economy too ... Of Deutschland und Nippon.

another anti-brit brits are crap Mindset ....

Subarus and BMWs never give problems apparently .... GET REAL!

Stevie 11 February 2003 04:30 PM

I know all cars have problems, Japanese and German included.

I still would`nt spend my hard earned on anything from Longbridge.

I think overall, Japanese and German cars may be, err, a little more reliable than British:)

ScoobySnack 11 February 2003 05:06 PM

I have a British and a German car....

My view is that the old TVR is reliable (not what most people say, but hey they don't have one), however its build quality compared to todays cars is poor in certain areas due to being hand built with a parts that are not manufaxctuered to high specs. :) Do things break , yes, but it doesn't stop me getting home ;)

The Beemer is good quality though....

Driven an MGF and would say the steering and suspension are not to my taste, but the build quality seemed very good.

Stevie 11 February 2003 05:11 PM

Does`nt the MGF have that crappy suspension from Allegro`s?

it`ll be the square steering, er, wheel next:)

47 NAT 11 February 2003 06:53 PM

I'm surprised it hasn't gone through about 15 head gaskets yet

>> I still would`nt spend my hard earned on anything from Longbridge. <<

Lucky you in a position to earn. Glum faced neighbour with similar attitude explained his factory is closing and he no longer has a job. Appears their regular customers are buying foreign. Still, he can look on the bright side. He has lots of time to polish his Subaru and the wife's BMW ..... until they are snatched back .....

Meantime, you're alright jack!

MGJohn 12 February 2003 01:03 AM

Back on thread ...

Wrong locks 5 times !!!! Electric window motor required. Door locks, window motors .... These are NOT huge tasks are they?

Something very wrong with the service at that dealership !!!

I_dont_giveafvk 12 February 2003 12:35 PM

id partex it for a proper car like an mx5, why anyone buys the MGF is a mystery, ****e build and not even that fast

theyz are girls cars

Butty 12 February 2003 01:06 PM

Andy,
Dunno if its the dealer or the supply chain.
We had problems getting parts on our ZT coz the MG parts contract had been changed and the new co. fukced it up big style.
I understand that its still very shakey and is leading to further delays in getting parts to dealers.

Nick

zero_to60 12 February 2003 01:16 PM

Idont***** what do you drive then? - a friggin Nova I bet

.:Nathan:. 12 February 2003 02:05 PM

Oh yeah, and since when has the lightening fast mx5 been anything but a hairdresser's car?

petey 12 February 2003 02:26 PM

here where i work there is a rover mg enthusiast you know the old (if it's not rover it's not good) chestnut!! and also my father has a mgf vvc which he got from new and they have both said that the rover outlets that served them were not as helpful as expected...

I happen to like the new Z series but as far as normal rovers go they are like grandads cars i think anyway (a to b not bad though)..
i would far rather get a beema or jap of similar spec tho

Stevie 12 February 2003 03:14 PM

MGJohn.

Yep, I am allright, but Steve, not Jack. Sorry your mate with similar attitude to mine is losing his job, I have the benefit of being unemployed since 1994 so cannot lose my job.

On a Japanese car bbs, you are more likely to get people prefering Japanese cars. Or maybe German.

I_dont_giveafvk 13 February 2003 09:57 AM

Corrado V6 mate not a Nova and it whips most cars especially MGFs

I_dont_giveafvk 13 February 2003 10:31 AM

oh and you need a beard with last nights dinner mixed in with it

MGJohn 13 February 2003 11:36 AM

I_dont ....fvk

You appear to have an excellent knowledge of these things. Obviously speaking from actual personal experience of an untidy, unshaven eater ..... :)

>> and it whips most cars << MOST cars? ....AND a lot of imagination ..... :D

chrispy200+ 13 February 2003 02:45 PM

isn't i great when you get constructive advice back from someone MGJohn.
As far as corrado's go they handle quite well for a front wheel driver but they are not quick at all.

The MGF is seen as quite a good track car by those that actuall know

I_dont_giveafvk 13 February 2003 02:57 PM

I have autocar figures to prove its quick 0-60 in 6 and a bit seconds thats a fast car in my opinan

Rich and Mini 13 February 2003 07:01 PM

The VVC MGFs weren't slow by any means, and the MG-TF 160 is quoted as 0-60 in 6.8seconds...

You have a Corrado and you call Rovers grandad cars?? :D

It's not all about straight line speed anyway, and even an alloy'd up E46 316 is gonna leave a Corrado for dead round roundabouts etc.

It's all down to personal taste, I've driven all the top spec Z cars, they're all lovely to drive and go well for what they are, handling isn't too shabby either. ( This is coming from someone who works for BMW..)

Rich :D

>Subarus and BMWs never give problems apparently .... GET REAL!
Well I have owned many British cars in my time and got totally peed off with thier unreliability. I have a "classic" Austin Maxi 1750 HL in my garage which I take to shows but as an everyday car it would have fallen to bits by now. Since I have bought Subaru I have had zero problems, oh I tell a lie, the LED clock on my MY97 Turbo wagon packed up after 12 months. Since then I have had a MY99 Forester Turbo and I now have a MY02 Impreza WRX wagon. My first Subaru was a 2 year old Legacy. None (other than the clock on the MY97 Turbo :D) have given me ANY trouble whatsoever. NOW THAT is reliability. In contrast my ex wife had an MGF from new in 1996 (one of the first). It was ALWAYS at the dealership.
I agree with the bloke up there, Japanese is best ;)...Blutes

MGJohn 13 February 2003 09:10 PM

>> I think overall, Japanese and German cars may be, err, a little more reliable than British <<

I wonder what Frank Williams, Eddie Jordan and the Boys at BAR F1 would think of that comment .... BOOM ... BOOM ... literally ... smoking !!... :D

AND, after all that huge investment, when are Toyota going to get an F1 result? ..... :D

Could go on like this indefinitely ..... :D :D :D ... but wont.

Brits are crap, Brits are crap, Brits are crap.... say it often enough and everyone will believe it. DOH! You'll be sorry ....... :(

Skittles 14 February 2003 12:07 AM

This is about road cars, not multi-million pound sports outfits

I used to own a rover coupe - I got it one year old. Biggest mistake of my life. Bits falling off everywhere - heater knob, glove box door, oil leaks (went in nine times to get that one fixed).

Exhaust went when the car was 2 years old!!!

When I sold it less than two years later, I lost 70% of the value!!

Don't get me wrong - if there is one car manufacturer I want to do well, its Rover/MG - it will just be a little while before I get another one. However saying that I test drve the MG version of the 75 and 45 last year at Milbrook. To say I was surprised woudl be a huge understatement - fantastic cars!

chrispy200+ 14 February 2003 11:08 AM

you must have just had a bad one, mine has had no problems with interior etc, yeah it's got an oil leak now after 4 years, oh yeah but i have just blown up the clutch.

You will always get nightmare cars, a bad one out of a batch

stevencotton 14 February 2003 03:19 PM

I think you may have the good one of a bad bunch ;)

Stevie 14 February 2003 03:29 PM

Slittles.

I'm glad you realised I was referring to road cars and not F1 cars.:)

red_dog104 14 February 2003 04:31 PM

I've emailled you with a contact name and number!

>AND, after all that huge investment, when are Toyota going to get an F1 result? .....
Who's bothered about Toyota ? This is a Subaru forum for Gawds sake.

Let me re-iterate on a competition theme:

WRC World rally manufacturers championship 1995, 1996, 1997.
WRC World rally drivers championship 2001 (in a Subaru).

Ok, Subaru are having a rough time at the moment but thats down to the drivers in my opinion. Had R Burns been with Subaru last year I think we may have been in a better position. Also I think the WRC should impose rules not just on weight and bhp, but wheelbase as well, because it appears that Peugeot with the 206 have a quite clear (unfair) advantage.....Blutes

p.s.
I think MG entered the WRC last year with Gyndaff Evans at the helm. Don't recall them even finishing a rally event in the top 15 never mind the top 5. Nuff said.
