Does anyone know if NT4 workstation has support for USB ? I have a box with this installed to SP6a and want to be able to plug in a PDA via the USB port. Can this be done ? How do I set up the hardware ?
Thanks in advance Ken |
no. unless there's a 3rd party driver.

i've seen a 3rd party driver for usb support under nt4, was in the past 6 months or so, but can't remember where.. suggest you search for one....

3rd party onely, NT4 Sp6 introduced support for DVD, but since then Microsoft haven't done much else with NT, as I guess their trying to convince everyone to jump to 2000, oh and buy new licenses!

Thanks for the replies.
I done a search and found there may be a driver that allows NT4 to recognise the USB ports in the PC. However, after this is installed, you face the problem of not having a driver with the USB device you want to plug in. As NT4 doesn't support USB then you don't get a driver with almost all USB devices. Most even check the OS version and abort the installation so you can't even try a Win2k driver. Thanks again Ken |
The third party USB drivers are useless. I have yet to see them work and allow USB under NT4.
I wouldnt waste your time trying to use them. Take it that NT4 is not designed for USB and you will need to obtain the serial cradle for the PDA device. |
i remember having a 3rd party FAT32 driver for NT4 - that worked :D
