Trying to set this xp pro up and everytime i click on an email address say on here, with 98 it used to automatically open a email window in aol?
How do i set this up to be the case with xp pro? Cheers Craig p.s modem still squals like my brakes!! |
Craig, I can answer both questions :D
Firstly the modem Squell. Open AOL and click on Setup, then select Expert setup Select the Devices tab and right click on your modem and select Edit Device. In there, there will be a setting that says something like Modem speaker. By default it is set to Low and not to Off. Set it to Off and save settings and exit AOL. Next time you connect it will be silent :D Secondly, your mail settings preference. This can be found from within Internet explorer funny enough. Open Internet explorer and selection, Tools/Options. On the 6th tab (called Programs) select AOL 7.0 to be your default mail program. Save settings and then run AOL. Click on an E-mail shortcut and it should open AOL :D Hope these helps Darren |
Doh, double post :( but Scoobynet is back :D

The first one worked great The modem did as you said and it is still sqealin???????/ Thanks Craig |
So the modem is still squelling? hmm. You could try and set the speaker volume to off in the Windows Control Panel.
Start/ Settings/Control panel/Phone and modem Options/Modems tab/Properties of modem/Modem tab/Speaker volume to Off etc. It’s weird though. All the time I have used AOL (About 6 years in all) I have never had the set the speaker Volume to Off in the control panel to dial into AOL. Setting it to Off in the AOL settings usually does the trick Give it a bash and let me know. Darren |

No still no joy. It used to be ok with 98 but with xp it squals ??? Craig |
i thought you had to use third party software to get aol email to work with outlook? one of them was "enetbot".
|
Suba, is Craig using Outlook?
I thought he was logging into AOL via AOL's own program. Darren |
Darrren aol is the one i use
Still squalin!! Suba enetbot code would be great though if you have one Craig |
Craig, I have a link to the enetbot code at home. I'll mail you later this evening.
Probably a bit drastic, but have you tried re-installing AOL? I don't think it will work, but you never know. Darren |
Darren
Bought a new modem and it is fine now The enetbot code would be great Which version is it for? Craig |
Sorry Craig, totally forogt about this as Scoobynet has been a bit flaky recently.
I don't have a clue where the code and I can't remember what version it was for either :( Once I find it I'll let you know. Darren |
