I bought a FujiPix 2400 which I am very happy with. If you want a picture example, I took some quick pix with it from an ICE install. YOu can see them under the ICE section, to do with fitting a CD changer in the boot. I just put the camera on auto, pressed the buttom.

Camera seemed to have been rated quite well in a fair number of camera magazines. Cost was 350 for camera, case, battery+charger, extra 16Mb card (comes with 8Mb). Bought online, as it was 350 just for camera with 8MB card in shops.

Edit: Forgot to mention it downloads via I-Link through USB.

I want to buy a Digi Camera for stills, if it managed short mpegs that would be brilliant, but not necessary. Any one got any ideas on what I should be looking for and some recommendations?

Cheers

Theres lot's of options both with Movie mode and without, whats your budget and what method of downloading do you prefer.

RichB 06 March 2001 11:48 AM

I found this site was fairly useful when I was looking...

Mr Bian 06 March 2001 11:49 AM

Budget would be under £500 if poss the cheaper the better within reason and all that. Not really sure on downloading method etc. I would be connecting it up to an IBM 600e Thinkpad Laptop if that helps?

Got a Sony DSC-S70-nice stills and mpegs with sounbd etc.

Around £699 retail over here but bought mine in Fuerteventura-£400.

Sony is a good choice as I should be able to get a discount from a friend. DSC-S70 is to expensive, anyone got any thoughts on the DSC S50 or DSC-P1??

Does your laptop have a firewire connection, mst of USB but bot firewire, except for the VAio's of course, it's a point worth noting.

Mr Bian 06 March 2001 04:41 PM

I will only be able to conect through the usb port, not sure work will fancy shelling out for a new Sony vaio for me!!!!

Dixons in the UK ariports sell Cannon Digital Ixus for £360 including VAT.

ChrisB 10 March 2001 08:28 PM

I brought my Ixus about eight months ago from Dixons Gatwick. You have to be flying to get to it though.

I paid something like £420 inc VAT, when everyone else was selling them at around £500 to £599 + VAT.

Chris.

I was going to go with a Nikon Coolpix 990 or the Fuji 7700. When I was at the duty-free in Heathrow a guy strolled over and raved about the Sony DSC-1 which I ended up buying. It does all the bits you're looking for plus it has a superb battery - camcorder type thing that'll run for about 2 hours with the LCD on and all. The only downside is that it uses a proprietry system of RAM - Sony's Magicstick but as I've got one of their MP3 players (ships with 64Mb)this suited me.
