After my last post on gatso's on the way to Aviemore, i raised a little interest in a days winter sporting without realising, does anybody fancy a days skiing/boarding/blading as soon as the snow fills in, most likely on a friday/saturday/sunday, more people means cheaper fuel costs for journey up and down, last time it cost me 40 squid up and down, thats a tenner each for a car of four.

let us know, especially the glasgow crowd who have little organised events. heres a good chance for a smashin day oot.

sounds like fun to me and I'm sure Kenny will be up for it too! :)

I'd have to dust off my snowboard but I'd maybe be up for that. Not sure I'd be landing front-flips and 720's these days though! In fact, not sure I could even navigate the slopes no more  Snowboarding isn't like riding a bike unfortunatly....you do forget :(

iainalpine 09 January 2003 05:32 PM

sounds like a good idea. im heading up to aberdeen 2morow and staying the night there and then heading over to aviemore for some boarding fun and alot of beer. would be a good idea if a crowd of us went up went boarding then went an got pissed. cafe mambo is a topper place to head to for some good cocktails.
let me no what think about the trip

Count me in! :D

Any day from Friday to Monday (inclusive) suits me.

On second thoughts, why not Glenshee? Better skiing IMO

Amanda-Jane 09 January 2003 06:38 PM

but there is more to do for evening entertainment in Aviemore ;)

skiing
*cough* Poof *cough* :p;)

Amanda-Jane 09 January 2003 06:59 PM

I can ski but never tried snowboarding and since I can windsurf I think I should be able to quite easily but then again probably not ;)

AJ

LG John 09 January 2003 07:05 PM

Similar balance required but you don't have a dirty great big sail to hold onto. Learning to ski twists your knees...learning to snowboard bruises your ass and breaks your bones  I've done both and would have to say I much prefer snowboarding. This is because I was into the freestyle element but if I was into cruising the slopes as quickly as possible I'd probably stick to skiing. Snow sports rule....just one problem....lack of :(

Scooby Dooby Blue 09 January 2003 07:21 PM

Heaven help me, I agree with Kenny:eek:

Snowboarding is much more fun. Been skiing since I was 6 and have kinda gotten fed up of it.

AJ...boarding's nowt like windsurfing (apart from the standing up element), so you might want to stuff a cushion down yer breeks for extra padding...assuming you ain't a size 22 :p:D

Paul

LG John 09 January 2003 07:25 PM

Can I have responsibility of cushion placement? :D

Amanda-Jane 09 January 2003 07:30 PM

behave you lot! :p

Anybody tought about where we'll be staying?

AJ

craig walker 09 January 2003 07:58 PM

how about the hilton?
was up there at the weekend and decent prices

Amanda-Jane 09 January 2003 08:05 PM

Coylumbridge or the one in the centre?

I quite fancy a log cabin!

AJ

Scooby Dooby Blue 09 January 2003 08:13 PM

Or if we go for Glenshee;) there's The Spittal or Blackwater Inn.
The Spittal has decent, reasonably priced accommodation only 10mins from the slopes and they serve lovely, homecooked grub :D

AJ

chrisyd 09 January 2003 08:54 PM

seems like a good show of interest, latest ski report says only two resorts are open, aviemore and the lecht, aviemore being the nearest from the south would be a better option, i will be heading up this sunday with the board if anybody fancies a "ski sunday" let us know and we can sort out a meeting place/time, if this is to short notice then i will be heading up the next weekend as well, possibly for a weekend binge as suggested above.

Iain (Skynet), unfortunatly my car is chock full this sunday, let me know if you fancy the next weekend.

cheers

craig walker 09 January 2003 10:28 PM

both hiltons are doing good deals during jan and feb, colyumbridge is more for if ur taking kids as its more familyish, plus the hilton in the centre is within walking distance of all the other pubs!!!

skyenet 09 January 2003 11:03 PM

No Probs Chris - Glad my e-mail to you last night got the snowball rolling. Fridays and Sundays are probably the best for me to arrange cover with my ex for Skye. Snowblades just serviced after a lot of damage due to some pretty ****e snow cover at the Lecht last outing. Done skiing, snowboarding now found out the best fun on the slopes. Enjoy Sunday's outing.

SiPie 10 January 2003 10:52 AM

Ski's though...... prefer to look the way I'm pointing :D

kart_man 11 January 2003 11:47 PM

Definately interested (x2). Not up for this "gays on trays" stuff though - I'll be sticking to skiing ;) !! Snowboarding's a bit too easy !!

It'll need to be in a few weeks time though as we're in New Zealand at the moment :D

John Stevenson 12 January 2003 01:07 AM

Guys...love to come to Aviemore ! But unfortunately I'm off to Mont Tremblant in Canada instead...bye :D
