Browsing thru the Demon Tweaks catalogue and came across rev limiters with a facility to allow full throttle gear shift and hence faster in gear acceleration.Anyone got one of these and if so opinions please.Cheers,Deep.

I don't know of this is the same thing, but I'm looking at a so called 'quick shift' which allows you to do full bore upchanges if you have a sequential dog box (eg a bike box / Getrag etc).

At the moment, to change up, I have to back of the throttle to unmesh the gears in order to get the car in gear. The quick shift thing operates on a switch that cuts the ignition when you pull the gear lever towards you, thus allowing up-gear changes without lifting of the throttle.

Can't see how this would work on a normal road car gear box though, I think you have to use the clutch with these ?

Hi Gary,I see what you mean but one of the ones advertised in Demon Tweaks is supplied with a clutch pedal switch so I am a little confused.I suppose the easiest thing is for me to ring them on Monday!!

Why would you want to use the clutch ?

one of me mates just fitted this to his car. basicly you can drive without the clutch, just change gear and thats it. cut a bit of his 0-60 so its worth it, and they are only £100-200. gonna get one soon.

he also said that he see's the odd flame coming when he does it, 'cos its still fully fueling but just not firing...

FTGC systems are NOT mechanically sympathetic... you may well change engine internals into externals... ask Pat about his expirience.

I use something very similar to what you have quoted and it was from Demon T's as well. I use it in my Sprint 205 Gti car.

Basically it allows you to change up without lifting the thottle. It cuts the revs to a preset limit (5000 rpm in my case) whilst the clutch is down to prevent over-revving whilst changing up with the thottle mashed to the floor.

Pops and bangs fantasically even from a Pug 205 GTi. Its sounds just like Antilag to be honest.

Its far from mechanically sympathetic and I wouldn't use it on my Subaru.

I think the link has a software way of doing this, but the motec, pectel and the like are better at doing it.

Now to really piss you off (LOL), it probably works a bit like the Unichip launch control, but then in every gear, not just 1st.

I would steer clear of it.

Its very far from being mechanically sympathetic and can cause the engine to "hydraulic" if it does not work as it should apart from stressing everything beyond what is sensible.

Do it at your peril and be prepared for a big bill sooner or later.

Danny, you may be thinking of anti-lag, Link cannot do the ignition cut itself although its perfectly possible to add in the function separately.
