is there a difference? have SO3's replaced SO2's?
I currently have SO2's and think they are excellent. I just wonder what the situation is.

The SO3's are just the replacement for the SO2's which have been discontinued. So according to all the promotions, its supposed to have all the positive charaateristics of the SO2's plus better wear rate, response etc. etc. I've not used them myself but i've read on this BBS that some still prefer the SO2's to SO3's despite all the claims by Bridgestone. I hope I'm not BS'ing about something you already know. Do a quick search, I'm sure I've read about it on here but in the tyres section!

Yes S02s are different from S02 PPs.

They look pretty much the same (only really the side wall is different) Normal S02s are a slightly softer compound and, IMO, are better in the dry. PPs have a dual compound to retain their wet grip even when the tread is minimal.


From what I am told, SO3s are not technically the replacement for S02s. They are acting as such as S02s are being phased out, but S03s are a more 'general all rounder'. There are S04s in the pipeline that will be the true high performance replacement for S02 PPs.

FYI - S01s were also a more all round tyre, but with a high but dry performance bias (designed for use in Japan and other drier countries).

I have seen some info for S03 Pole Position tyres, would these now be the equivalent of the S02 PP as opposed to an S04?

Has anybody tried the S03 PP (if it's available yes) and if so, what are they like?

I have 16" SO-3 PP's.

I like 'em but I've not had a play with SO-2's so I can't compare.

I've S03 PP's (on 17") based on the: if you can't say anything nice policy, I'll stay quiet, but will recommend Toyos over them by a fair margin, even if their tyre life is a bit limited.

What's the difference in price range of the Bridgestones vs the Toyo's?

I have been led to belive that the Toyo's are cheaper?

Also, has anyone tried any Yoko's? They were always the tyre of choice on Westfields/Caterhams etc for road use?

Yokahama AVS Sports are a wicked tyre wrongly underated IMO. They wear pretty quick but are a nice soft compound and monster in the dry.
