This appears to just be warming the throttle body (probably to stop it from 'icing-up). I have re routed this now :):).

Anyone else done this mod??? benefits/downsides??

Cheers

done it on mine, and a few previous cars. as you say, whats the point in having the nice hot engine coolant heating the charge air

ian :)

While you are at it, do the ISC valve too :) Every little helps ;)

So i had a useful brainstorm then?!?!?!

Andy,

Sorry to be ignorant....what is the ISC valve & where is it?? (MY97).

Idle Speed Control Valve. It's on the passenger side of the intake manifold, there are 2 water pipes on the underside to prevent icing.

Nice one Andy :):):)

thanks

was trying to rack my mind with what it meant ------ been a long day

then get some spacers made to isolate the inlet manifold from the block... Im also thinking of wrapping my inlet in exhaust heat wrap...

Did you find this helped the charge temps further then???

Congrats on your car BTW, what a result!

I think the ISC valve has bimetallic spring acting on a 2nd 'flap' in the unit. Its certainly not there just to stop it freezing up.
When this valve is used for antilag purposes and just used as a simple open or closed valve, all the redundant parts like this 2nd flap are removed to increase the airflow.

scoobyracer, anymore info on using these for antilag..

I think you can still buy them already machined, from Prodrive Group N Sales dept.

David_Wallis 01 November 2002 11:27 AM

Pete, you on about the turbos, spacers or ISCV's??

Buy something? Nah.. Make it myself!

Yeah. I'll try and think back how its done and let you know. This is the mod you will get when you buy one direct.
Then its just a matter of driving the valve direct either fully open (ALS on) or fully closed (ALS off). Then jack the throttle open 0.5mm to allow it to idle. Increase throttle opening and add cylinder cut to increase ALS affect.
