Next thing ,he will be in "Eastenders"
driving around "The Square" in some Krap plot !!!

richards 20 September 2001 09:17 PM

Simon, you're too humble for them lot!

They just couldn't accept that a 'non-pro' beat them all!

Well done mate, yet again, and hope to see you go onto bigger and better things - it's about time isn't it?

See you sometime!

Richard http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

DT 20 September 2001 09:17 PM

He even managed to look like he knew what he was doing http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Type R 20 September 2001 09:19 PM

Nice one Si.

What do you reckon to Pedro's excuse on how he is not gonna be very good ?

carl 20 September 2001 09:20 PM

Good stuff. Even some humility for the cameras ("That was a good lap", "Really?") http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I thought it would be a bit longer (the camera angles were crap too -- no impression of sideways). The Autocar article was lacking in detail compared to previous years, too (in the past it gave individual scores for both cars).

johnfelstead 20 September 2001 09:21 PM

Great showing Simon.

Nice to see the WRX on TV at last. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

It looked the bollox. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

That nod to the camera though, cracked me up mate. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

SDB 20 September 2001 09:24 PM

Thanks guys http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

It was a great day. The pro drivers were completely cool, it has to be said. Not a hint of negativity.

Everyone was joking around, but they were all INCREDIBLY serious once they got in the car.

Pedro's comment was bang on.. you don't need that kind of car control to drive in F1.. that is NOT a negative statement, as you need a totally different type of car control.

I KNEW I'd have forgotten to hold the belly in!!!!

If the camera adds 40 pounds, I hope there were at least 5 cameras on me!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

All the best

Simon

SDB 20 September 2001 09:28 PM

LOL @ john..
I have to say, I was a wel chuffed they chose the nodding bit!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif If they chose that as the best bit, you can imagine what the rest must have been like!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

ChrisB 20 September 2001 09:31 PM

Top stuff - makes me a proud to be a member of ScoobyNet http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

A new question for the pub - how many world record holders do you know then?

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

JackClark 20 September 2001 09:36 PM

Congrats Simon, quite an achievement.

Gary Foster 20 September 2001 09:48 PM

Absolutely brilliant seeing the in car shots, looks so serene from the outside - and on the inside ! ! !

I must, say Simon did look far more controlled (is that the right word ?) than the other guys - hands flailing, opposite lock this way and that.

Well done !!!

PeteT 20 September 2001 10:17 PM

IMHO Simon looked far more sideways than the rest of them as well http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

SJobson 20 September 2001 10:21 PM

Shame it wasn't in a WRX round Mira, eh?

Good work, Mr DeB

pslewis 20 September 2001 10:23 PM

You once told me that you like it sideways best - I thought it was a sexual deviation - but now I understand http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Well done!

Pete

Top one SDB. The folks watched as well. Had no choice, I had the remote. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Well chuffed to see Scoobynet and your success on the goggle box.

Shame they didn't make a whole feature out of it.

Is some of the footage going to be on the CD Roms?

Congrats,

P.

druddle 20 September 2001 10:40 PM

Rock on mate !!!

Next stop Hollywood !

Dave

MRK 21 September 2001 12:31 AM

OOOPPPPAAALLAAAAHHHH wicked, amazing, incredible job Simon.

Congrats on your World Record. You looked sooooo smooth in the WRX.

& coming second in Autocars sideways challenge. Its a shame they didn't mention the record in the mag, but I suppose they were all peeved at getting wipped by you.

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Nice one http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Olly 21 September 2001 12:40 AM

Fantastic stuff. The world record looked amazing.

Simon, how the hell to you practice for such an event? Is there a roundabout up the road from your house with some neat grooves worn into the road?

dharbige 21 September 2001 12:52 AM

I can't believe that:
a) I missed it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
b) That nobody has tried to crack a "good job I was watching SDB on a widescreen TV" type joke. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Despite some serious mickey taking from the girlfiend (no typo) I watched and taped the show. Disappointed they didn't make more of what was definitely the most interesting part of the programme. Coming second to the the Lotus guy is certainly no disgrace either!

Dream Weaver 21 September 2001 09:14 AM

SDB - top stuff mate - thought you did superb, and I never realised that the Scoob in your MIRA attempt was going that much sideways http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Must have been difficult so well done.

Bob - dont worry, I have it on tape so will lend it you on the next meet - autumn karting??
