anyone on here using them?

I have lost me fitting instructions on where leads 1 - 7 go, so I cannot fit it.

Anyone know where they go???

Mo 25 October 2002 01:07 PM

I think Bob Rawle fitted one a while ago.

I should imagine it's wired to the inlet manifold, strut tops, alternator??

Do a search for earthing mod, there's been loads about it. Nearly as much as Optimax;)

ChristianR 25 October 2002 01:10 PM

yep bob has fitted one, but he doesn't have the orig instructions anymore.

swan 25 October 2002 02:41 PM

Tried their site or contacting them directly? Can't see getting a fax or scan being a problem.

ChristianR 25 October 2002 02:45 PM

nothing on the site, and I asked the supplier who supplied the goods to me to get in contact, but they haven't got back to them, even after the company chasing.

POC 25 October 2002 02:48 PM

Call HKS Europe on 08704 541 038 ask for Lee, he will be happy to fax you instructions, he faxed me ECV V instructions when I needed them a couple of weeks back.

Cheers

Paul

Good luck.

Maybe this or this will help?
That's why I suggested search, this has been repeated so many times everyone should know this off by heart........

NOS nova 25 October 2002 05:31 PM

out of interest, how much is an HKS earth kit and what does it consist of???

[Edited by NOS nova - 10/25/2002 5:32:43 PM]

Bob Rawle 25 October 2002 06:07 PM

I fitted one but only used it as a base, I added extra cabling and "did my own thing" on the connections, I have some pics but they are a touch big (file size) however I will try and reduce them and post them up if I can

Bob Rawle 25 October 2002 06:27 PM

Right so all I need to do is find out how to define a sensible size ... Christian ???

ChristianR 25 October 2002 06:33 PM

you will need to do it on your pc before uploading.

If you are in XP, just select all the pictures, then right click and choose send to email recipent. This will load up a window saying send pictures via email, and two options, either to make all the pictures smaller, or keep originals. Select make all images smaller, click on show more options, and choose 640x480. XP will do its thing, and have all the pictures in an email for you. Now just copy all of the pictures out of the email, on to say your desktop, and upload them to turbosport.

NOS nova 25 October 2002 06:50 PM

so the HKS kit is the purple cables i take it(thanks for the reply by the way)
i take it this will give you a better earth over the engine.

ChristianR 25 October 2002 06:56 PM

BLOODY HELL!!!!

i was expecting more like £30

think i will do a DIY job on the beast.

did it make much differance then christian???

i can understand how it would work BUT did it?

POC 25 October 2002 07:09 PM

did I type it wrong? ;)

NOS nova 25 October 2002 07:13 PM

POC, are you a car dealer or just bloody loaded!!!

ChristianR 25 October 2002 07:17 PM

NOS nova - best to ask Bob, I haven't fitted mine yet as I lost the instructions! Hence the reason why I started this topic :)

dnb 25 October 2002 07:20 PM

NOS Nova - I made up some cables myself - only done 3 so far, and there are another couple to go on. Total cost was under £5 :)
(I did get some freebie eye connector things...)

It seems to make the engine run smoother on idle and made the stereo work better (less interferance). So it did something, but not a lot. (My car is a UK MY96, so it's had a chance to get old and for electrical connections to deteriorate)

No magic performance increase that I've noticed though.

POC 25 October 2002 07:34 PM

NOS nova - I think 'indecisive' is the correct term :D

NOS nova 25 October 2002 08:16 PM

NOT MORE SNAKE OIL!!!

Turbo_Steve 25 October 2002 08:27 PM

No one said it would improve your top end.
Earthing your engine is renowned for fixing your idle (and any 'lumpy' running caused by bad sensor readings. But remember that under WOT most of your sensors are completely ignored cos the ECU just reverts to maps.
=shrug=

dnb 25 October 2002 08:36 PM

Just to add - I was only trying to fix my car's lumpy idle problem, so the DIY earthing worked as I wanted.

I can still hope for magic performance increases if I want to...

(at under £5, & the added pretty wires under the bonnet I think it was worth it. Wouldn't want to pay any more than that though...)

Bob Rawle 25 October 2002 10:20 PM

Purple is the HKS stuff, the brown is my custom stuiff, HKS is expensive but all the connectors come gold plated as does the "nice" solid copper earth disk (circle earth you see). Mine is a nine point system that also includes the car interior.

B4 Boy 27 October 2002 07:44 AM

Sorry Cant do the link but also look here..

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?ThreadID=112723

Ours has been set up for a while (custom made wouldnt pay £130 out of principle!)

As link says found that the car appeared to be smoother throughout the rev range and also smaller things like louder stereo and the car appeared to start quicker!

Not snake-oil but not worth £130!

Matt
