Is anyone doing a grooved disk / Ally bell combo for the STi 7 yet?

James.

advevo 02 October 2002 10:53 PM

have you managed to warp the standard ones?

DaveW 02 October 2002 11:47 PM

He might have just seen how much replacements are from Subaru...

I'm looking at these, they look good and have some good write-ups.

STI MAN 03 October 2002 01:07 AM

Don't AP Racing do a Bell/Disc option yet?

AJbaseBloke 03 October 2002 03:54 PM

Not got them on an Impreza, but the DBA5000s have done well on my Legacy at many track days - and since mine are smaller diameter than the new STi, I should imagine they are fabulous with the Brembo callipers!

James_Harvey 04 October 2002 12:49 PM

No, I havent warped them, but the standard disks weigh a tonne and no doubt contribute to pad knock off.

I am looking to upgrade to a grooved disk with alloy bell and performance pads.

James.

Speak to Pete at Scoobysport and see what he says ;) or you could speak to Mike at Scoobymania as he owns an STI7 :D

Big Goon 04 October 2002 02:14 PM

Better still, they (the dealers) post what they can supply us with and prices, cant be arsed chasing them up, if they want the buisness they can do the work :D

Pete Croney 05 October 2002 12:31 PM

James

I doubt that the weight of the disc would have any effect, other than quite some saving on unsprung weight.

What would have an effect is the reduced heat transfer into the hub, from using a two piece disc and bell set up. This would help with the pad knock off as the bearings would remain much cooler and therefore in better condition.

That said, the biggest problem is tha calliper design. There are no PKO features in this calliper.

RB5SCOTT 05 October 2002 02:15 PM

Or you could do what i've done with my Prodrive/Alcon setup. I've bought some AP 330*28mm curved vein discs then i'm getting Hi-Spec engineering to make me some bells to suit ;)

Tony,
Mike has changed the calipers on his STI

GRANT 06 October 2002 03:42 PM

Scott,
Would you have a contact number for Hi-Spec as I tried every where to get some bells made up for my STi after manageing to crack them at my last track day.

Replacement OEM discs cost £504 inc vat

Many thanks

As posted earlier in the thread by me :p

James_Harvey 08 October 2002 12:38 PM

Grant... Also very interested mate, but not that keen on drilled (tend to crack).

Have you any grooved only ones?

I'll give you a bell later.

James.

GRANT 08 October 2002 04:45 PM

O.K just collected the discs.
They are NOT drilled or groved but have a very funky set of venting vanes.

Very well finished, but as James said they are a tad heavy, but I suppose at the price I can't moan.

Will be fitting mine tonight.

Grant

Andy W 08 October 2002 05:57 PM

Grant,
HAve they an alloy bell? Could you give us an impression of the weight versus the std disc when you take them off, not suggesting you take them to the bathroom scales, just an estimation.

Andy

GRANT 08 October 2002 06:26 PM

Andy,
It is the same as the original ie one solid unit.
Weight is the same as original.

Grant

Big Goon 08 October 2002 06:49 PM

Sorry Grant, specifically wanted grooved or drilled m8 :(

GRANT 08 October 2002 07:17 PM

No worries.

Grant

Andy W 08 October 2002 08:56 PM

Goon, Jonno (look at Members Gallery under STI prodrive lowereed...) E-mailed me about getting STD discs machined with grooves and dimples
