Can anyone please shed light on how many years these wretched points stay on the licence for....even cops I have asked seem to have no idea about this..some saying 3 years, others 4 years...one said six years!.....please enlighten me once and for all.....

Turboman

Only my understanding, but.....

After 4 years you can apply for a replacement licence and the points will not feature. However, for insurance purposes etc, you can ignore speeding fines (but probably not D&D bans!) after 3 years.

But what about for totting up purposes?

Andy McCord 01 October 2002 03:15 PM

Endorsements remain on a counterpart licence for:

11 years from date of conviction for offences relating to drink/drugs and driving, causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink/drugs and causing death by careless driving then failing to provide a specimen for analysis

4 years from date of conviction for reckless/dangerous driving and offences resulting in disqualification

4 years from the date of offence in all other cases

I think 3 years for totting up.

turboman786 01 October 2002 03:18 PM

So where does the 3 year bit come into it??

jim litten 01 October 2002 03:22 PM

The three years comes into account for losing it, if within 3 years you accumalate 12 points bye bye licence, but you can in theory collect more if there is a 12 month gap so you could have 15 points in four years and still have a licence just wouldn't be able to insure anything less than a robin reliant.

you can get normal (sp30's) etc wiped after 3 years

uktony 01 October 2002 03:23 PM

I agree with Jim

Just couldn't get the words out.

Andy McCord 01 October 2002 03:46 PM

my reply earlier came straight from DVLA website, it states 4 years min for all penalty points

jjones 01 October 2002 03:49 PM

they count (can be added to your total) for 3 years. they can removed off of the counterpart to your licence after 4 years.

insurance companies want to know of offences in the last 5 years.

chockymonster 01 October 2002 03:53 PM

3 years - points count towards tot up
4 years - points can be removed from your license
5 years - insurance companies don't need to know about them

There are certain points that don't get removed after 4 years

beemerboy 01 October 2002 04:30 PM

Andy, if thats the case i would have been banned!!!!

SShhhh! dont tell ayone ;-)

Jolly Green Monster 2 01 October 2002 07:21 PM

I agree with Chockymonster on this one..

At least that is what has happened on my licence with my <cough> history of 15points total, so far.. not clever... but you live and learn <I think>..

JGM :)
