Hiya :D

I want to set up my first website with html and am looking for somewhere to host it.

I've heard nothing but good things about Titan but their £50 a year cheapest option is a bit too steep for me. £30 is my max a year really.

Can anyone recommend any other good hosts for £30 or less a year? I know that you can get free domains etc but the pop ups annoy me greatly!

Cheers all!

how about £20/year for domain name, webspace, emails and other goodies? wonder down to hostplus.

Try their "Free" General Package. A Friend uses them to host THIS Message board ... as you can see, No Pop ups and quite a high bandwidth limit. don't see that you would have any problems :)

I'm actually looking at that one at the moment Suba! :D I saw you mention it on another post. :) I'm looking at the value package for £30 here. The .co.uk name I want is available too. Could oen of you lovely lot possibly explain what the things I get with the package are?? I'm afraid I'm still learning about webhosting and a lot of it is flying straight over my head. One thing confuses me: Why 100 email addresses? Sounds a bit greedy to me. :)

Avi, will have a look at them too thanks! :)

Don't uppose anyone would like to donate £20 so I can use Titan? Nah I thought not. :D:D

katie,

I use www.oneandone.co.uk I think their cheapest is about £1.50 a month, I host alot of sites with them and they offer alot of features.

100 emails address...

you can setup 100 email address on your domain name. so for example, if your domain name is qwertyu.co.uk, you can setup emails like your.name@qwertyu.co.uk, etc.

Titan - £1 a week, worth it for the service, hassle free FTP and quality hosting. These cheap places are a nightmare.

GarnetFox 30 September 2002 08:48 PM

I know that but I'm trying to think of where I can come up with £50. *Thinks* Fundraising? :D

me happy with hostplus :) i got no connection with them except i got a domain name register and hosting package with them (the £20/year package). i get speedy response from their technical support when i need them. so far so good.

GarnetFox 30 September 2002 08:49 PM

Spoke to HostPlus. They seem to be saying that I will have to pay £60 upfront to have the hosting for 2 years due to a .co.uk address. But but but...!

Dream Weaver 30 September 2002 09:52 PM

Christ and I thought I was skint - whats happening garnet

GarnetFox 30 September 2002 10:03 PM

Long story....... :(

Gist of it is, I got ill, lost job etc. Still ill and on incoem support (and incapacity benefit hopefully, I'm having to fight for that a second time). Not a great situation to be in. For fun stuff like own web page I have to use what's left of my savings and there isn't much.

That answer your question?

Dream Weaver 01 October 2002 12:20 AM

Sorry to hear that Garnet - wasn't having a go, just curious.

I will do my best to offer you help in your website quest :)

GarnetFox 01 October 2002 01:05 AM

Ta. :)

Mate just suggested this place.... 34SP, what do you think?

MarkO 01 October 2002 08:00 AM

Out of interest, if you're that skint that you can't afford £20/year for titan, should you perhaps consider leaving the webhosting until you have a bit more cash coming in?

suba 01 October 2002 11:33 AM

or settle for free webspace with banner!

IanW 01 October 2002 12:12 PM

Or use the free webspace from your ISP, and point your domain at it.

GarnetFox 01 October 2002 12:14 PM

titan isnt £20 a year unless im lookign at the wrong site,it said £50.

MarkO 01 October 2002 12:28 PM

Assuming it's going to be extremely low bandwitdth, why not email Lee and ask if he'll do you a deal?

GarnetFox 01 October 2002 01:59 PM

MarkO - You have mail. :) Lee actually offered me a deal! :D

MarkO 01 October 2002 02:21 PM

He's a good lad. :D

MarkO 01 October 2002 02:34 PM

Oh, Garnet, YHM. :D

Ebay some stuff!

Seriously, I am semi redundant at the moment and have been covering my backside by ebaying a few useless items!
