Does it affect your insurance rating?
How much are you paying for it, and what are you getting?

sorry for all the questions...

Tiggs 10 August 2001 08:44 AM

For those among you that are waiting for ppp you may be interested to know what a difference it makes to a standard wrx thats allready been run in.
Those UK300 boys can't tell you because the jammy gits have got ppp from the start http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif they've not put up with sluggish midrange, hesitation at 6,000rpm and a feeling that there isn't the oomph there should be! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

well i have for 5 flipping months http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif but.....

all is about to change!

I'll post my comparrison of std V ppp very, very soon.

Tiggs,
From one of your previous posts i guess you are having it done next week at the same time as the Eibach springs, very interested to have more info on both mods, how DID you manage to get your PPP so early?????

.....and in a couple of weeks or so we can compare it to my Link..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Tiggs 10 August 2001 05:11 PM

mezzer,

as your cars always weighed down with so much dirt (ever heard of a sponge http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif) i doubt it would be a fair comparisson.

bobafett,

insurance- i expect so but mine and mezzers cars are insured by our firm so i've no idea by how much.

cost- £1600

Getting- an ecu, intercooler thingy??, de-catted mid section and backbox, but i ain't no expert so check elsewhere for the exact details (there's no shortage of threads!)

Dave,

"a couple of weeks" - i'll be waiting for you then http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

tiggs

scoobyboy 10 August 2001 06:47 PM

the uk300 doesnt have the ppp on it as standad it's a normal turbo http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Tiggs 10 August 2001 07:48 PM

scoobyboy,

correct, but the UK300's that went for PPP got it straight away so, unless i'm mistaken, no one on here has run a WRX for 5,000 miles plus (properly run in) then put PPP on it.

Your right no one has done 5000 miles and then fitted a PPP. However I did run my UK300 for 2000 miles before fitting the PPP, so have seen the difference before and after.

The kit must be filtering through as Nobles (Edinburgh) fitted 4/5 PPP kits to WRX's last week and were also fitting one to a UK300 while I was there today.

It won't be long.

However does anybody know if this upgrade is likely to be transferable to future imprezas, if for argument sake you change car in 3 years time will you have to repurchase the kit or will the old one just bolt on.

I doubt you will be able to transfer the kit. An MY00 kit wont fit an MY01 and the engines arent that much different on paper (bhp wise although conponents have ie intercooler is bigger on the MY01 but has a more restrictive exhaust). You wont get a great deal back on the kit when you sell the car, as mods are worht very little secondhand. The only real way to get any money back on it is to have the kit removed and then sell it secondhand for a UK MY01 which hasnt been PPP.

cheers

The way I understand it, removing the PPP from a MY01 will not be as easy as with pre 01 models. I believe that with MY00 and earlier you kept the old ECU so it could be refitted in the future, I am told by my dealer that with the MY01 PPP you do not get to keep the ECU so have nothing to refit in the future.

Can anyone with a PPP'ed UK300 or MY01 (if any have been done yet) care to confirm this?

Dave T-S 12 August 2001 12:53 AM

The MY00 and prior PPP used a completely new ECU that was sourced from Japan.

The MY01 PPP reuses the existing ECU casing with new boards (a Unichip piggyback it is rumoured?) etc inside. This is the main reason the MY01 PPP is cheaper than the previous one.

You could possibly take the guts out of the modified ECU and put it back to a standard one, depending on what has been done.

I have got this information from an official source....

Best bet is not to worry about what will happen in three years time but fit it and enjoy it now.

keo 12 August 2001 05:51 PM

If you went the link route can the chip be reprogrammed for future imprezas. Just trying to check the most cost effective upgrade as warranty protection is not an issue for me.

cheers

Dave T-S 12 August 2001 06:27 PM

You will probably be able to move a Link (for example) from one MY01 to another. Best ask Bob Rawle though:

bob.rawle@btinternet.com

Biggest advantage of the Link is that it is mapped to your individual car. The PPP comes to a fixed spec for a standard car and that is it.

A PPP UK300 with Scoobysport d/p has been seen to boost to the very limits of the PPP map, it isn't designed to work with it, and is exactly what Prodrive are concerned with.

Each Link is mapped to your individual car, so if you have a full decat system it will be mapped to take this into account. Bob maps his cars so they do not detonate, but KnockLink should also be fitted so any hint of det is picked up.

http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/Gif/SDOOScoob.gif

Ok lets see if we can get a definative list

which MY01 owners (NOT UK300)

1)have ordered PPP
2)paid a deposit
3)HAD IT FITTED
4)dealer name

Cheers

Dave,
I've heard a rumour that if you change the up-pipe it reduces knock by about 3 degrees, so a ppp car with dp & up-pipe would give less knock, and would be very quick http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

That's an interesting rumour - by strange coincidence I heard an almost identical one only this very week mate http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif (and if H&S haven't made our up-pipes this week so they can be fitted with my AP 6 pots next Saturday I shall go round and kick their collective ar5es.....) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Phil,

1. Yes PPP ordered.
2. No, no deposit paid.
3. Yeah right, the Subaru pigs are flying high. No date yet.
4. Tileys of Bristol.

I have also had the Full ScoobySport system fitted but after reading some of the comments regarding PPP and DeCat systems together, have decided to take off the ScoobySport and try just PPP.

My dealer has strict instructions from IM

http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/deal.gif

That there are to be NO modifications to the standard car or they will not be allowed to to fit PPP

any deviation will be punished by death (or similar)
